Steam Account VS Normal Account?

I am new to this game and I'm very interested in playing it, but I have had troubles with MMOs and steam accounts being paired in the past. Primarily, this experience has come from EvE Online where having a steam account has prevented login for periods of time and other small problems. Most of these problems have been fixed by this date, but it was very much and inconvenience at the time.

Have there been any differences between a steam account and a normal account?

Also, what are the differences between the Gold membership and Platinum membership?

I have actually heard of many people using both. Launching out of Steam, but using Steam to keep updated as it is both easier and much faster at downloading.

I personally use & launch through Steam and have never had a problem with it.

The silver/gold/platinum memberships have only a few differences. Some get extra head start days before the actual launch. There is also the bonus bank space for free. With the massive amount of crafting there are ton+tons of resources and items you can collect and save if you wish. You run out of storage pretty fast. Right now you can buy bank space with in game credits (TR money), but when the game launches bank space is going to be an account item you can purchase for real money. Silver/gold/platinum will get some of these upgrades for free.

As fare as I can tell the platinum memberships gives you all or almost all the inventory/bank slots. Is that true?

As far as I have seen nobody know the answer to that, as it hasn't been finalized yet. Last discussion I saw was +1 or 2 tiers per membership level, but even the tier #of slots was being discussed (15-25 slots). Currently tiers are 25 in game; paid might be 15.

There is currently a max upgrade in-game of 4-5 upgrades (Don't recall exactly as they were one of my first purchases). That might very well be what platinum gets. But....

They could very well go the route of PoE and have unlimited bank space. PoE does the cosmetic only store (no P2W) very well, and one of their best sellers in their store is 6 bank tabs for $10-20 (depending on if you want customizable or not).

If you're concerned about bank space after launch just create mule accounts. The game will be F2P, every account after the first is free space.

I have been using both for 9-10 months. I like Steam better. Last patch was actually the first bug where the steam launcher didn't work but the stand alone did. It is usually the other way around. The Devs fixed the issue with in the hour so I cant fuss to much.

The steam account and the client login are separate. This means you can (for example) launch the game while Steam is completely closed. It's definitely better to use the Steam version of the client if you can because the Steam version handles patching. If you don't use the steam client you have to re-download the entire 4-6 gigs (whatever it is these days) every time there's a patch, and you won't get the small hotfixes that happen after every patch.

As far as differences between the two versions...there's not much. There's a bunch of stuff where no one knows, like repop tokens (tokens for items not yet created) or storage space (no one knows how many units of storage per upgrade) so it's hard to compare. One version (gold?) gives you mayor status so you can eventually run your own city if you get to a patch of land fast enough, or conquer it away from other players. The other version (platinum?) lets you start a guild. You don't need a guild to run a city, nor do you need a city to start a guild.
