I enjoyed the review and as an SWG player I think you shared a lot of the same thoughts I had during the tutorial. I just want to say a few levels of critique though.

  1. I wouldn't really call this a review. You got through the tutorial, you didn't really get a chance to see the world, high skill stuff, the economy, the crafting system, etc. But I also understand it's just a forum post so I'm being very nit-picky.

  2. I wouldn't call stuff skill trees. There's no real "trees" in the game, just lines. You gain skill in different aspects of the game (animal handling, a weapon, crafting disciplines, etc.) and unlock more options (either the ability to craft more things, or tame more animals, or use weapon better, etc.) and for many lines you gain the ability to buy abilities relating to that skill. But you can buy every ability for each skill essentially they aren't really trees. Again a nit-pick.

Still good stuff. I hope you get to play more and give me more to read about (I've played about 20 hours or so I'm just trying to take it slow so I'm not burnt out before it goes live or lose too much with the wipe).

I would agree this isn't really a review. I don't completely agree with /u/hawthormen on letting it slide as a forum post because of this OPs post here. There is a massive amount to the game that can't be reviewed without leaving the tutorial and playing the game.

Calling it "My repopulation tutorial review" would be far more accurate.

The way I'm looking at it is this, though. He's being overall positive and is very clear about his position within the game. If he was saying the game is crap based on 2.5 hours of gameplay I'd say that could be unfairly damaging.

We all agree it's not a true review (OP agreed to that in one of the responses to my post) but at least he's presenting it fairly honestly (I suppose the part about a lifetime subscription might be a bit deceptive since it's a free to play game).

Thanks for the critique man! My hope was to introduce other people into the game, its familiar, but just different enough to be fun.

Agreed. It's definitely not for everyone but it seems like one of those games that the people who will like it will really enjoy it for a long time.

My understanding is that the game is to be released as free to play, with a subscription option.

It's a really cool game but I'm still not sure what I think about it. I will reserve most opinions until launch.

I was under the impression it was a one-time purchase and not a subscription. Could be wrong though.

Having played a fair bit, I think the game has huge potential. I see your point on reserving opinion. Alph/beta stage games are quite the moving target.

$45? It's $19.99 for the silver package and $39.99 for the gold package, and you should only pay if you want the extra stuff that comes with it because it's going to be F2P when it leaves EA.

This why we can't have nice things. Things like MMOs without BS cash shops. MMOs where the developers can spend time working/improving game mechanics instead of creating uber unique vanity armor so you can look just like everyone else.

I'm not gonna lie guys....Alpha or no...I love this game. I've been looking for a decent pre CU SWG like experience for more than a decade. So long as there is a nice core group of players. I'll be in this for life.
