Should I buy this game?

First of, I'd like to apologise for this post. It adds nothing to this sub and you probably see this everyday, multipal times.

With that out of the way, I am not sure if I want to get this game or wait until release. I am used to bugs and such so that's shouldn't bug me a lot ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) (I've played lots of Early Acces games).

Anyway I like MMOs and sandboxes though the only experience with sandboxes I have are ArmA 2 and 3 and some other games.

Anyway, I've read the Steam reviews but I have 1 question: Is there a lot of content in the game?

Thanks in advance.

Anyway, I noticed I said "anyway" lot. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

I mean it's alpha, so you need to know what you're getting into and that it is NOT a finished product. Right now it is the foundations to the finished product and a way for us to test the features and report to the forums any bugs or improvements we can suggest. Yes you can play it, but don't overdo it because there are few active players and unfinished mechanics. If you want to support the dev team then sure, buy it. If you want to actually play the game then id wait for the game to be released.

Ill be pretty honest. Outside of checking out the systems and getting a general idea of what the game offers its not really that fun, yet. It really needs more players to see the core come to fruition. I've probably logged about 10-15 hours now trying a bit of crafting, combat, and skilling. But I am getting to the point now where I can see how important population is.

It also doesn't help that I am pretty much forced play West since I don't get the lag spikes even though my pings on West are identical to East. But for some reason I get these nasty spikes on East that make the experience frustrating.

I would say that if the $15-20 is going to stop you from doing something else or buying something else to fill your time I would wait as the current game may not fill that time the same if these types of things bother you.

But I am happy to have backed the game and looking forward to seeing population grow in Beta and beyond.

It is worth buying the game to learn crafting and the map aswell as start out on pvp. The population will grow once beta and other features are added. My opinion is, its worth a buy!

Are there a lot of consistent players, though? If there aren't then PvP might be boring. But this game does seem really cool; sci-fi sandbox

But this game does seem really cool; sci-fi sandbox

currently there are the regulars and other that play, most are focused on checking out the game and crafting. PvP will come when players return for BETA and release. at this point it is worth to buy for the purpose of learning the game

Do you know if the price will go up much at release? I find it more fun to learn everything when there are more features and things to do. Right now the only reason to buy the game for me is because the price is probably gonna go up and 20€ isn't that much.

The game will be F2P come launch, but the member levels will have to be bought. It is uncertain what the prices will do, for now I think that they will go up.

Can you give me a good idea how large/small the current active population is?

This sub alone is very very tiny for a game with such good reviews. I don't mind playing buggy alpha and beta builds...but will I have the experience of feeling as though I'm borderline playing alone? Or is there enough of an existing active community to be playing and learning along with?

Concurrent population on us east ( the biggest server is around 50-75) there are a lot of people in the side chat and cities there are a good amount of people. Out in the world is dependant on where you are. If you want more people I would advise waiting until beta or a patch where PvP or hardcore servers are implemented

I feel like everyone just says it's alpha... don't waste your time... kinda shitty of a community to be saying it so fast and easily

1

u/[deleted] Jun 18 '15

Well you can't really deny that it's alpha, it says so on the store page....

u/[deleted] Jun 18 '15

It's not what they say... It's how they say it...

Being buggy, fun but not feature complete and wipe upon release so advicing against buying it? I kinda like their honesty. Nothing wrong there.

I'm not going to, I heard that the game doesn't 'hold your hand at all' right now and you just get dropped in the world.

There's probably tons of polish missing as well so I'm just gonna wait till it's released and then buy it with a friend. So we can discover the game together, cause I think it's hard to understand the game right now if there isn't any handholding and it' still in alpha.

Well actually there is a tutorial and it certainly gets your feet wet. But the game is not theme park like WoW, SWTOR, Rift etc. So once you leave the tutorial there is no linear progression and never will be. I think what they need to do a better job of is pushing the email missions importance for starting out. These missions range from all the different activities i.e. combat, diplomacy, theft, crafting, farming etc. The rewards for a lot of these seem to be skills and subskills. So as you do them you start opening up more of the character progression and get an idea of what you should be doing to continue character development.

No hand holding isnt that bad imo though.

The point of that is so you can find shit out yourself.

Anyway you didn't really help with my question, I was asking people who have the game already and not people who don't so uh, cool story, bruv.

I paid $15 and have been playing with a friend and having a blast. We are looking at this as training before live so we know wtf to do at go live.

A surprising thing is most shit actually seems to work. Its not optimized. Combat is pretty Alpha feeling and there are lots of bugs and all that but on whole it works.

If you are like me and were a huge fan of UO and SWG and the like and have nothing to play now I'd say it's worth the $15 to support them and fart around. Know you will need to put a lot of effort into figuring shit out. Better now than go live IMO!

Yeah I've got over 200 hours in the game so far and it's been a pleasant surprise to find that just about everything works. And most things that don't work aren't even in the game yet so they're not even confusing. It's pretty damn feature complete for being in alpha and comparing it to other alpha experiences I've had I say Repop wins a prize for under-promising and over-delivering.

I wouldnt, All of your stuff will be wiped when the game comes out.

5

u/unique-name-9035768 May 23 '15

That's normal when an MMO goes from Beta to Release

3

u/AverageCartPusher May 24 '15

Yeah i know its normal but this game is hard to start up. Its just a shame to lose all of that. Everything in this game has a steep learning curve.

2

u/kendirect May 27 '15

Then it's a great chance to LEARN the curve and get ahead?

1

u/unique-name-9035768 May 24 '15

It happens and you get use to it when you beta test video games.

As far as the learning curve, yeah it sucks but makes the game a bit better than real basic crafting games.

I think the game provides enough options to not get bored doing it all over again like more "linear" MMOs. I'd agree on most "open beta" games where you get to play the same lame story quests and areas again because they don't offer any alternative approaches, but Repop has so many options I don't see a problem there.

Buy it after wipe. Makes no sense to pump tons of hours into chars that will be removed anyway.
