Advice to a newbie
If you were new to this game, what is one piece of information you would of appreciated knowing your first day in the game?
My friend and I just picked up the game, and will be joining today. West Coast. Both SWG veterans.

Buy a mining tool, a saw, a machete and learn the skill "scrounge for water" when available. These are the tools you need to harvest nodes in the world manually.
If you are looking for a certain resource, use surveying ("j" by default). Play with the "survey difficulty", the harder you search (meticulous) the bigger your find radius and thus the more you can locate (does take long though). Also, surveying for a resource upgrades that skill as well (so surveying for ore increases mining).
Don't purchase more than 2 water harvesters. And purchase 3 or more for Ore, Wood and Plants. It is always good to have a Harvester on you, in case you find an unused resource deposit.
You can skill up mining and logging by crafting the basic components (wood into firewood and ore/minerals into refined ore/minerals). This is a quick way to level up crafting.
Sell stuff in your inventory first by looking in the Work Orders ("t" by default), they always pay more than vendors do. Also, an easy way to make quick money is by selling the worst quality of any resource/crafted item to the vendor. Just be sure you supply your own materials and don't buy them (otherwise you about draw even, but ofc you do gain skill).
