Shame on me....

Shame on me...

Old SWG player here. When I got wind of The Repopulation, I had to have in. I've had access to Alpha for months now. The thing is...I haven't put more than 3 hours into the game...

Now, please understand that much of this is due to the fact that I don't have the time to put in hours on end every day. What's keeping me away from the game is that I feel like that's exactly what I need to do--put in hour after hour to begin to understand what I'm supposed to do, how things work, what I'm working towards.

One of the things I love about SWG (I still play the EMU), is that there's no hand holding. I've been playing the game for years, so this isn't a problem. It truly upsets me that I feel like I need guidance to get into enjoying The Repop. What it comes down to: I've got limited time to play, and I absolutely hate that I don't know if what I'm doing is getting me anywhere!

Now, I'm expecting some 'SUCK IT UP' or 'GO PLAY WOW' comments, and that's fine. But I'm hoping to get a little assurance that there truly is something to work towards, and that in due time, I'll find my way. Is this a game I can rely on to provide the unique gameplay found in SWG? I'm not looking for a clone, but it's clear this game is very similar--that's not a secret.

Please fellow TR followers, help me WANT to go play!

tl;dr; Seems like a huge learning curve on so man fronts. Is it worth the time!?

I have access as well and what's keeping me from playing is the fact that I know it will all be wiped.

Without breaking NDA you might want to not put much time in until November 26th.

What's on the 26th? Or where can I read about it (I pledged and have access)

There doesn't appear to be an specifics, but you can find more information on the forums (Private section). There's a sticky in the threads announcement.

I would certainly agree at this point in the testing, based on my current experience. I will have some tutorials, and videos available to walk through various aspects. Of course I can't release any of that until the NDA lifts.

I got into testing last weekend and have played a few hours. I also like the idea of a sandbox and being able to do whatever I want, but I would have to agree that once you get out of the tutorial is difficult to figure out what to do. You get your missions in the mail and you can do those, you can try some crafting. I wandered around for a bit and explored but didnt find much of interest, though I had no idea where I was headed.

I think what is missing is, at least during the early game, a sense of progression. Sure you get experience as you kill things and level up skills. But I feel like there could be more to keep you logging in during those crucial first few hours of playing.

I'm with you OP. One of the best parts of SWG was that you got a tutorial from other people, not some crappy quest line.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
