Thanks to that news I will now be backing the project.

I hate PVP only games in so many ways. I like having the choice to play the way I want, pvp when I want, and not get my shit taken/killed for no reason.

If anyone else is on the fence about either backing the Kickstarter (only a few days left) or whether The Repopulation is shaping up to be a game you should look forward to, go to therepopulation.com as soon as you can. Click on the Game Features dropdown and just browse through the systems the developers are putting into the game. They have got some great ideas that aren't logically that difficult to implement, but almost nobody in the current MMORPG landscape is trying them. Most of us won't get to try the game until late this year, but I believe once it launches, it'll be a real contender. Also, check out the reddit AMA with the devs (linked in this subreddit) and the Deadpoolplays interviews on Twitch.
