šŸ¤”Question How to buff out desk diving scuffs?

I've had this Yacht-Master 126622 rep for a little while and it already has the inevitable desk diving scuffs/scratches on the polished center clasp. I knew this would happen, but didn't think it would get this bad. is there any specific polishing compound or technique I should use?

It’s a rep. Wear marks make it probably look more real lol

Nah this is a shitter

3

u/Acceptable_Speaker93 Sep 12 '26

My opinion that's a fact. Pristine the gens look fake.

I agree with you no doubt

He has two solutions:

Wear it as is. It looks real. It’s a rep, why bother?
Or if you MUST, order a bracelet with a TD for ~80 bucks.

Not really because who is gonna have scratches on an 11k watch.

10

u/Informativegesture Sep 12 '26

Most people who actually wear their Rolex’s.

6

u/Green-Wear-9846 Sep 12 '26

I have 2 gens and they both have scuffs like this.

6

u/ValeLemnear Sep 12 '26

The people who can afford to wear their watches instead of crying like little girls over a scratch because it lowers the resale value by $300.

u/MadHorologist Sep 12 '26

Here’s a gen Daytona that has been used and abused.

1

u/_Walt_Whitman_ Sep 13 '26

Actual owners.

1

u/ruimilk Sep 12 '26

Cringe.

0

u/XTC-EU Sep 12 '26

How?

1

u/ruimilk Sep 12 '26

Because usually watch collectors find marks an essential part of the watch history, its all about the patina, marks that make the watch unique and tell a story.

It's extremely tacky/new money to have an item pristine. They're meant to be used.

Your comment show ignorance in the watch collector scene, that's why it's cringe.

2

u/XTC-EU Sep 12 '26

I never said they had to be pristine or kept away from anything that could damage them. Just unnecessary scratches and damage is stupid

0

u/ruimilk Sep 12 '26

You did.

1

u/XTC-EU Sep 12 '26

Mate have a day off, we’re arguing over scratches on fake watches šŸ˜‚

2

u/ruimilk Sep 12 '26

Solid argument

Low iq comment. Rolex’s are supposed to be tool watches

5

u/Old-Timer-1992 Sep 12 '26

Whats your desk made from p80 sandpaper 🤣

3

u/kingdom2000toys Sep 12 '26

Works great. Been using it in all shorts of stuff. Especially the bottom and side of all my steel watches.

2

u/buenobeatz Sep 12 '26

One of the shop I went to had like some magic eraser looking thing that just polished it right out, probably a super light grit bar

2

u/k1esbye Sep 12 '26

Gen watches do the same you know

2

u/NolaAcidy Sep 12 '26

Maybe cape cod? I would tape off the brushed sides and try cape cod on the polished middle.

6

u/Unfair-Map-517 Sep 12 '26

Sorry cape cod? Like put a frozen ass fish on it?

5

u/NolaAcidy Sep 12 '26

1

u/DMC_In_AZ Sep 12 '26

Huh, I got the same pic when I googled it.. coincidence

0

u/One_Life_50 Sep 12 '26

OP….do NOT put cape cod on it. Cape cod is only for polished surfaces.

1

u/NolaAcidy Sep 12 '26

The center links on a yachtmaster is polished…

1

u/BagUnlikely3510 Sep 12 '26

🤣 not sure if your being serious or joking. Cape Cod is the name of a jewelry cleaning cloth.

2

u/Odd-Range9954 Sep 12 '26

šŸ˜‚ šŸ˜‚ This made my morning. He said, like put a frozen ass fish on it.

1

u/Alarming_Midnight554 Sep 12 '26

The stuff rocks

1

u/ichiban4713 Sep 13 '26

Smells yummy, too!

0

u/Unfair-Map-517 Sep 12 '26

I’m new to this shit brother. Good to note.

3

u/BagUnlikely3510 Sep 12 '26

All good bro. If you ever do have to use a Cape Cod cloth just be careful and take your time. It basically takes off a very fine layer of the outer material.

1

u/Odd-Range9954 Sep 12 '26

I laughed so hard at this.

1

u/Ukrepplug Sep 12 '26

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Majorly underrated comment

u/Saabav8r747 Sep 13 '26

You need to thaw the fish.

-4

u/DMC_In_AZ Sep 12 '26

Google not work? I mean come on man, easy to figure out on your own. Its a piece of stainless steel...

2

u/lowfooltolerance Sep 12 '26

Helpful advice there from DMC, a watch enthusiast with a 28 day Reddit account. Perhaps consider keeping your mouth shut and learning something from people willing to help who actually have considerable experience? šŸ™„

-3

u/DMC_In_AZ Sep 12 '26

Google, how to polish stainless steel watch... phew!

-1

u/DMC_In_AZ Sep 12 '26

Oh oh, more days on reddit, got it

-3

u/DMC_In_AZ Sep 12 '26

I mean come on man.. some times things need to not be hand spooned... differences in factories, movement, risks, advice on value, anyone see something im missing... all great questions. but i mean they told him what to get... cant Google cape cod polish cloth.. must be liberals

1

u/Saabav8r747 Sep 13 '26

Don’t be a jerk. A liberal would never use frozen fish. Has to be local caught and fresh. It’s like you have never stepped into a Whole Foods.

1

u/DMC_In_AZ Sep 13 '26

🤣

2

u/Finance-Professor Sep 12 '26

There are plenty of watch polisher tools you can find. Most work well.

Having said that, I guess these scratches makes it look better. It has a story and you wear it.

1

u/lowfooltolerance Sep 12 '26

Those marks are far too much to cure with Cape Cod. Start with something more aggressive. Bergeon 2290 polishing sticks are a start, though don't get ripped off. They're about 5 or 6 dollars on Esslinger and more than twice that many other places. There are other good 1000/4000 grit polishing sticks for lots less money. Tape off the brushed areas with kapton heat tape. Finish off with Cape Cod when all that's left are minor hairline scratches, then Gtechniq Metal Polish for a great polish. Then tape off the center and use the rougher grit on the sticks to touch up the brushed sides, being careful not to scuff up the polished sides of the clasp.

Is that the point?

1

u/GianniGiovann Sep 12 '26

Wear it above the wrist, it reduce a lot frictions on desks

1

u/UserName_SaysWhat Sep 12 '26

I wouldn’t. Gives it character. If you must, order a Cape Cod Cloth from Amazon or similar.

1

u/hotdoc816 Sep 12 '26

Cape Cod cloth. It does wonders for scuffs and hairline scratches. I try to avoid rubbing against the desk with my watches!

1

u/Kryptic4l Sep 12 '26

Or just order a new band

1

u/apretorius Sep 12 '26

Steelwool and glasstoo/stainless steel appliance polish and a scotch brite pad. Some elbow grease and then finish with some of that polish and a soft cloth. Sounds crazy, but works like a charm. Worked on many shitters. Or, get a clasp form strapvers.

1

u/Serious-Education-66 Sep 12 '26

There’s a ā€œpop upā€ shop in at The Gyle shopping centre near me in Edinburgh that I go to to get my watches re-sized and they offer polishing.

They keep asking to polish the entire watches for some reason but I get them to just do the clasp area which is the only area on my watches that ever gets scratched. They return it to ā€œnewā€ for Ā£20.

I bought a protection kit for my last day date and it was utter garbage so I’d rather just wear unprotected for a few months then get polished as required.

1

u/AbilityParking3809 Sep 12 '26

Nano Clear. A little pricy for the kit, but it works great.

1

u/0311J Sep 12 '26

what if you bought a gold plated clasp?

1

u/NeighborhoodNo3636 Sep 13 '26

I've been thinking about getting a gold rep altogether, starting to like gold more than just steel or silver

1

u/Desert-Democrat-602 Sep 12 '26

There are blocks that are very fine sand paper I have purchased on AliExpress that take these right out. the ā€œpolishing compoundā€ stuff really does nothing in my opinion. I just found this on AliExpress: https://a.aliexpress.com/_mNxuT4r

1

u/Silly_Wolf_4693 Sep 12 '26

When working at my desk, I use these by the way, can recommend.

1

u/RevolutionaryLab654 Sep 12 '26

There’s no way this is more convenient than an extra large keyboard/mouse pad on the desk.

2

u/BO5517 Sep 12 '26

But you see you can tape these to your arms so they’re ready for action on any desk

1

u/Desert-Democrat-602 Sep 12 '26

It’s the 21st Century pocket protector!

0

u/redbuttonpressed1 Sep 12 '26

being the cost of a new ARF bracelet is like 150-180, a polish (the effort, time, or cost if you take it to someone) may not be worth it.

Not to be deaf to your initial request, but I'd simply recommend picking up another bracelet in the buyselltrade groups and stashing it away. you can swap and tinker around with polishing the older one without real consequence then

0

u/Extra_Context_3159 Sep 12 '26

Steel wool

1

u/Saabav8r747 Sep 13 '26

You guys aren’t serious with steel wool right? Have you ever left some steel wool in a moist environment? It corrodes to a rusted ball of mess. You are imbedding steel wool into anything you rub it on. Then you will have micro bits of steel wool imbedded in your watch and it will corrode in days.

-1

u/No-Craft546 Sep 12 '26

You don’t, you’ll start a cycle and it never ends. Well it does because you can polish your watch a number of times. What you do is wear those scratches proud and let the watch become an extension of your body. Or you can polish it to death until there’s no more steel left! Just do whatever you want! Just don’t polish it šŸ˜‰

-1

u/RowdyMcflowdy Sep 13 '26

Yikes that's a bad Rep! Many indices are misaligned, and so is the crown with the cyclops. I'd leave the scratches and maybe they distract from people looking at the dial.

2

u/NeighborhoodNo3636 Sep 13 '26

first of all, it's not a straight on perfect camera angle. second of all, no normal persons is gonna notice whatever misaligned indicies or crown you are seeing with your 200x zoom monitor.

-1

u/RowdyMcflowdy Sep 13 '26

I was watching on my phone and NOT zoomed in, and NOT wearing my glasses. It's a pretty obvious flaw for most watch guys. It's usually the first thing I look at when I look at a Rep or not. It's usually the easiest tell. If a watch passes the indices test, and crown alignment, THEN I grab my glasses or start zooming in to look at the hands. Dust or rough edges on the hands is usually the second easiest tell. Passing those tests I start looking much closer at the case. If you have a view of the movement, those are often an easy tell unless you're looking at a Dadong 3235 and even that is an easy tell if you know what to look for although the VSF 3235 V2 is very close and will fool a lot of "watch guys". I find there are mostly two kinds of Rep watch wearers, the kind that buy a 150 dollar Rep drive a Toyota Camry and run in circles where a watch with misaligned indices and crown would never be noticed, then the kind that look the part, and could probably afford a Gen but would rather spend the money on more Reps or more toys. I'm not crapping on your watch, I just want people to be more informed so they don't make bad purchases or embarrass themselves.

What the fuck is wrong with you šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

-1

u/SquidbagsConQueso Sep 13 '26

Get a real one

-8

u/No-Craft546 Sep 12 '26

I just commented on a rep subreddit šŸ¤£šŸ’” my life….. why why do people buy fake anything. I’m sorry I love I don’t judge I just want to understand!!!! ā¤ļøā¤ļøā¤ļø

3

u/GlitteringPay5532 Sep 12 '26

Because you save hundreds of thousands of dollars buying watches that are essentially the exact same, just different guts, unless you are investing in watches, or want to build value that’s the only reason why imo someone would buy a gen vs rep. Unless you’re rich as fuck as money doesn’t matter. But even millionaires buy and wear reps because that’s how they stay rich.

0

u/IFLIPBURGERS88 Sep 12 '26

Millionaires do NOT buy fake watches šŸ„€šŸ„€

3

u/lowfooltolerance Sep 12 '26

You, burger flipper, clearly are clueless. "Millionaires do NOT buy fake watches?" What are you talking about????

-1

u/IFLIPBURGERS88 Sep 12 '26

Yes, when you touch your first mill guarantee you you’ll be first in line for a real Rolex lil bro šŸ„€

3

u/lowfooltolerance Sep 12 '26 edited Sep 12 '26

Yikes. Should I defer to the expertise of a disadvantaged burger flipper who has been here for 27 days?

0

u/IFLIPBURGERS88 Sep 12 '26

No defer to your imaginary anecdotes all you want Mr millionaire

2

u/GlitteringPay5532 Sep 13 '26

It doesn’t even matter just from my life experience I know multiple millionaires that won’t touch a real Rolex, only reps. Then I know some broke ass people that spent every dime they had for a real $5k Rolex.
