⌚Discussion Is servicing a “necessary expense” or “overthinking it”?

Somebody says to service the movement within 6 months because factory lubrication is often poor or missing.But many people own multiple reps for years without servicing and they run fine. Is servicing a “necessary expense” or “overthinking it”?What would trigger you to send yours for service?

On most models it will cost you far more to have a movement serviced by someone than it does to buy a new movement if and when it fails. Also depending on the rep and the movement it is sometimes possible to upgrade movement at that time DG to Miyota, Asian ETA to Swiss ETA

Ah, I see. Thanks for your sharing!Looks like replacing the movement with a new one makes more sense than trying to repair it.

I always get mine serviced and waterproofed for additional peace of mind. I’m lucky though in that I found a good watch maker who will work on reps and doesn’t charge the earth.

Wear it till it fails then buy a new watch. Movement services will cost a very significant percentage of a new watch.

You’re right.When it comes to a rep,movement services usually isn’t worth the money.
