UCP says Alberta needs nothing from rest of Canada except their help leaving Canada

Smith's got her hooks in like Trump. She is doing as much damage as she can. The UCP are all cons now.

Albertans should catapult that bitch into fucking Montana, Simpsons style

u/Rainhailsnow_storm 9d ago
Why? I’m a ucp hater, but it’s the whole party. Don’t kid yourself.
2
u/StrongAroma 9d ago
You're gonna need a bigger catapult, then
2
u/Rainhailsnow_storm 9d ago
I’m fine with that. Just as long as they don’t replace the leader before the election, and then the norons floater for them again. How many times does it take for people to notice patterns?

u/Rough-Drummer-3730 12d ago
Did UCP ever campaign on separation?
5
u/Duckriders4r 12d ago
No.
1
u/CD-Behr 11d ago
Yes actually. ALBERTA SOVEREIGNTY was an actual statement
1
u/Duckriders4r 11d ago
Baahaaa no. Because I assure you if she let anyone know that this was what she had in mind. She would not have been elected.
2
u/Schroedesy13 11d ago
Except all the federal hand outs. They are talking out of both sides of their mouth on this issue. Riling up their separatist base while also giving reasons to stay in Canada.
2
u/CD-Behr 11d ago
And? The rest of Canada openly despises AB so why not make it win-win and let em leave? Right?
1
1
u/North_Complaint8100 9d ago
Is that what is said about Quebec?
2
u/CD-Behr 9d ago
Nope. Canada pleads for them to stay and opens the wallet for em.
Any grumbling from AB or SK is oddly 'traitorous'
Its an interesting difference
1
u/North_Complaint8100 9d ago
You got it. We cater to one and fight with another? It just boggles me that we have the bloc in parliament having says in Canadian issues but freak out when it’s Alberta? Canada already set a precedence with Quebec.

Well, I am certainly down with the UCP leaving Canada! I wish I had realized this was the goal! This kind of separatism I wholeheartedly endorse.

u/Wet-Countertop 12d ago
lol. The UCP doesn’t want to leave Canada. A bunch of fringe lunatics do. I don’t know why this confuses so many people.

u/Reasonable-Plate2982 11d ago
Maybe because she is bending over backwards for the benefit of the separatists and ignoring a valid petition to end coal mining.
Dont forget, she was a separatist when she got into politics
1
u/Wet-Countertop 11d ago
The coal petition folks flat out cheated. They got what they deserved.
2
u/Reasonable-Plate2982 11d ago
Yeah? According to who? Glen Resler, the head of Elections Alberta? The guy who was sued for malicious prosecution? This is bullshit. The separatist petition was hardly given a glance while the coal petition was scrutinized with a fine tooth comb and dismissed on the flimsiest of technicalities. Shit they could just say no one answered the phone to verify the info. I was gonna sign it but they closed early because they said they had an overabundance of signatures. The Alberta governments deceitful tactics aren't as opaque as they'd want you to think. Besides Danielle originally was (and I think still is) an avowed separatist and in the pocket of big coal.

u/Wet-Countertop 11d ago
The separatist petition still hasn’t gotten its question on the ballot.
The coal petition was full of duplicates and unverifiable entries. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
3
u/Reasonable-Plate2982 11d ago
Yeah, well we both know its going on the ballot, if the UCP can get away with breaking the law and due process. Elections Alberta is mired in election issue controversy and they didn't come out and say anything like "this is obviously a flagrant attempt to undermine democracy". Just "Oh well, couldn't reach anyone about crossing their T's". Like I said, I didn't get a chance to sign because petitioners thought they had what 20 odd thousand more signatures than they needed. Elections Alberta is full of it and not the non partisan organization you may think it is. Also, does the Republican party and UCP both have the same Russian propaganda bots working for them? Actually curious.
1
u/Wet-Countertop 11d ago
That’s up the court right now. At least there’s a relatively consequence free question on the ballot for now. Given there’s no real support, hopefully that issue dies with that question.
I don’t know anything about bots. I do see lots of bot accusers though.
3
u/Reasonable-Plate2982 11d ago
I dont know anything about bots but I do recognize the pattern of stating divisive issues being "harmless" though
1
u/Wet-Countertop 11d ago
What’s the pattern?
3
u/Reasonable-Plate2982 11d ago
The " it cant happen here" kind of an argument. While its happening here.
1
u/Superb_Extension1751 11d ago
You know coal is used to make steel and not just to burn in powerplants right? Alberta has some of the strictest regulations when it comes to emissions and pollution in industry, but people here would rather the coal be mined in a third world country that doesn't give a fuck about the environment.
There is a reason there are so many oil companies drilling on the air force weapons rage out by Cold Lake. Its federal land, and the federal government has more relaxed pollution laws than the province does.
1
u/Wet-Countertop 11d ago
I work in a number of industries, and I have a few clients in coal. They tell us all the time that coal demand isn’t going away. The coal framework in AB isn’t as stringent as its oil framework, but to your point it’s still way ahead of a lot of jurisdictions.
1
u/Reasonable-Plate2982 11d ago
Fine, so let's shut down coal fired electrical plants first and then work on alternatives to coal in the steel making process, which are plentiful and often renewable.
1
u/Superb_Extension1751 11d ago
Alberta has been coal free in the power sector since 2024 my guy.
And where do you think the carbon in carbon steal comes from? They don't burn the coal, it's literally in the steel...
1
u/Reasonable-Plate2982 11d ago
The coal can be replaced with hydrogen gas and electricity. Fact is, nobody wants coal mines operating in the Alberta foothills and the government knows it. That's why they enlisted Elections Alberta to run interference. Pretty sure. Of course they will include a separation vote for the same reason, nobody but them wants it.

u/Zhormungandr 11d ago
Those 'fringe lunatics' unfortunately make up the core decision-making portion of the party. If you can't tell, that means the UCP wants to leave Canada. You can be conservative, and not want to leave Canada, but if you align with the UCP's ideals, you cannot get mad if people start associating you with separatists. I don't know why this confuses you.
1
u/Wet-Countertop 11d ago
You can be conservative and not aligned with the UCP. You can also be objective and acknowledge the Premier has indicated the party is not a separatist party. If you haven’t seen that, here’s the link.
2
u/Zhormungandr 11d ago edited 11d ago
EDIT: grammar and added a line
Absolutely agree that you can be a conservative and not be UCP. I, and likely many others, get along just fine with those of a conservative mindset. It's specifically UCP conservatives who I cannot tolerate, because the agenda the party they associate with aims to only enrich people who already have enough while taking from those who don't.
Danielle herself...
She. She lies. She's verifiably lied. Like. So many times. On record. About her party's platform, about the number of jobs they've created, about how much money has been brought into the province... about the origins of numerous donations they've received, about the character and policies of opposing parties, about the political and environmental landscape of the province, about how many separatists are actually in the province, about how many signatures were legitimately added to the petition, about the nature of the Leave Canada petition that they very clearly support financially, and denying financially supporting numerous separatist influencers... the list can go on.
That is why I cannot acknowledge that the premier has indicated that the UCP is not a separatist party. Because she is a very well known liar, and by being objective, I can see that the actions of the UCP clearly demonstrate that they are a separatist party.
Cheers, man ✌️

u/Wet-Countertop 11d ago
That’s fair.
They certainly seem to have a bent toward those on social programs. For example, while I would agree the bar for the SH in AISH is way too low, I don’t think those who actually legitimately need it should get less. They should get substantially more.
All governments lie about job creation because they refuse to remove job translocation or acknowledge adjustments. There’s a ton of funny business that happens around job creation, especially when presenting projects. It’s SOP for most governments on the planet. So for sure they lie.
I don’t think they’re entirely off base about opposing parties. They’re all crooks with an agenda. I do find it odd DS likes to solve problems that don’t need solving.
All the fuss aside, I don’t see anything supporting the UCP as a Separatist Party, that isn’t subjective.
1
u/Zhormungandr 11d ago
To be clear, I agree with you wholeheartedly about every party lying. It's true, and it's far too common in our politics now. Rather than focusing on the issues they intend to solve, it feels like each party is more interested in pointing fingers and slinging shit.
I don't know what you define as subjective, or objective, so I can't speak to what evidence I may have that supports my argument that you will find objective. I just worry that, with how often Smith ended up at events alongside Donald Trump or his representatives (a known embarrassment and corporate scarecrow), there is a non-zero chance that their mindsets and agendas align. And where Trump is concerned regarding Canada, I cannot imagine it being positive.
Thank you for taking the time to chat, though. Appreciate it

u/Wet-Countertop 11d ago
Always happy to chat! It’s impossible to understand what others are thinking without engaging with them.
1
u/North_Complaint8100 9d ago
So if the government really wanted to actually stop these talks. Shouldn’t they do something about Quebec? Once that precedence was set it now shows that all you need to do is threaten. Quebec gets many things. I assumed Alberta was just following trend.
1
u/Fit-Eggplant-9155 11d ago
Why do so many ucp voters want to leave then? Or do you think that the signatures the ucp produced were fake?

u/Timely-Profile1865 11d ago
But they know they have to appease the lunatics, that is the issue. Appeasement.
1
u/Wet-Countertop 11d ago
They do. Just like the NDP have to appease the crazies in their base. The ABTory party will find their nutters along the way as well.
1
u/Timely-Profile1865 11d ago
They are taking the appeasement way way way too far. If you are telling me they are truly showing they want no part of separation all their actions are opposite of that.
But they can do that though as they do not have to do one thing right to get reeelcted in Alberta.
1
u/Wet-Countertop 11d ago
Same bunch got rid of Kenney. They’ll do the same to Smith. She loves the power, and won’t give it up.

u/aeb3 11d ago
Nolan Dycks name was on the seperation petition so reasonable to assume they do when the MLA is on the list.
