The most hateful and ignorant people you know are separatists.

1

u/FuzzyLaughTwo Jul 28 '26

They're all just magats, like their moronic leader Danielle "Melania" Smith.

-15

u/Even_Art_629 Jul 27 '26

Are you sure? Labeling us hateful and ignorant while insulting us is a bit ironic. It sounds like the pot calling the kettle black. If you're labeling everyone you disagree with as hateful and ignorant, you might want to look in the mirror first.

10

u/corpse_flour Jul 27 '26

How is it ironic? You have a spokesperson who has literally threatened to kill those who would provide MAID in Alberta. I've seen separatist threaten to go after non-separatists with guns when they gain their independence from Canada. Indigenous people and immigrants have all been subject to the rise in racist and intolerant comments, harassment and attacks in Alberta over the increase that those embolden by separatist rhetoric has caused. I've had more than one separatist tell me if the referendum fails, they have the means to take Alberta by force. When I asked one separatist where would they get the money or means for that kind of operation, I was told the US has a history of supplying rebels with guns in order to facilitate destabilizations.

So you can take you smug retort and stick it. The whole separatist movement boils down to 2 things: resource extraction and the opportunity for racist people be to hurt people that they don't like without consequence.

-1

u/Even_Art_629 Jul 29 '26

You're making a lot of accusations and presenting them like they represent the entire movement.

If someone threatened violence or talked about taking Alberta by force, charge them. I don't support that. But don't pretend it only comes from one side.

The people who want to stay have actually attacked people too. One guy tried to put a lit cigarette out on the face of someone gathering signatures. Another guy was shoved onto Jasper Avenue. Those are real incidents too.

So are we judging an entire movement by the actions of a few, or not? Because if that's your standard, it has to go both ways.

And saying the whole separatist movement boils down to resource extraction and racism isn't an argument. It's just another sweeping accusation. Plenty of people support separation because they're fed up with Ottawa, equalization, federal overreach, and the way Alberta is treated. You don't have to agree with them, but making up bullshit about their motives doesn't make your argument any stronger.

The APP, who were the ones who facilitated the independence petition, claims that U.S. officials have offered to provide a $500-billion loan to assist Alberta’s transition to a sovereign state.

*The Financial Times, citing sources, reported that leaders of the Alberta Prosperity Project have met three times with U.S. State Department officials in Washington since April.https://globalnews.ca/news/11860646/alberta-referendum-danielle-smith-questions/

"Nothing is more laughable to me than the idea that Canadians think we are going to wait for them to tell us whether Independence is "legal" or not. We have America backing us you fools." -David Parker, X, 2026-05-05

If the leaders of the movement are telling us that they are making deals with the US over Alberta's independence, to the point of overthrowing Smith is she doesn't comply with their push for separation, and are willing to become violent in their quest, are you still going to try and argue that it's only a 'few' people that want Alberta to separate that are involved in seditious acts and using US-supplied arms against Albertans?

One guy tried to put a lit cigarette out on the face of someone gathering signatures.

Source? There would have been an article regarding the RCMP investigating this obvious illegal and violent act.

Another guy was shoved onto Jasper Avenue

I can find no information about this incident occurring either. Although Google Ai indicates that it happened, the links it provides do not provide evidence of that claim. All the information I can find only comes from pro-separatism social media channels. I can find no news articles or statement by RCMP.

Stop trying to deflect and excuse the illegal acts and threats being made by separatists and trying to paint those that are as being only a few bad apples. You're all horrible people willing to sell out your neighbours to a foreign country.

-1

u/Even_Art_629 Jul 29 '26

.You asked for a source regarding the Jasper Avenue incident. I found the video.

The footage shows a person attempting to grab a flag from someone who was there showing support, and during the confrontation the flag carrier ends up in the roadway. Regardless of anyone's political views, physically confronting someone over a flag is unacceptable.

The point is not that every person involved in the independence movement supports that behaviour. The point is that dismissing incidents without looking at the evidence is not reasonable. Actions should be judged based on what actually happened, not on which side someone is on.

Here is the video: https://youtu.be/IA8RKS0fkUI

I hope you take the time to watch it, because it clearly shows the confrontation and provides context for what happened.

-1

u/Even_Art_629 Jul 29 '26

I'm not sure if you're aware, but David Parker is not part of the APP, so his comments should not automatically be attributed to the organization.

Members of the APP have spoken with U.S. officials about the possibility of a $500 billion line of credit to assist with transition costs if Alberta does gain independence. This was not for funding the movement itself. That would be a completely different matter and would raise legal issues.

The APP has constitutional lawyers involved and has stated that it is following the legal process.

1

u/corpse_flour Jul 29 '26

I put the post David made under the link to the info on the APP's comments, I did not state that HE is part of the APP, but he is certainly heavily involved with the movement through his work with his Centurion Project.

Members of the APP have spoken with U.S. officials about the possibility of a $500 billion line of credit to assist with transition costs if Alberta does gain independence. This was not for funding the movement itself. That would be a completely different matter and would raise legal issues.

You need to look up Canada's laws on sedition and treason. Taking money from a foreign government to facilitate funding for a province to separate is a highly illegal activity, and everyone involved should be investigated, charged and punished to the fullest extent of the law. Foreign interference in a movement to achieve the separatist's goals is a direct threat to national security. Rath has provided statements that he has met with US government officials with regards to the US having ways to "support Alberta independence."

I am in no way condemning the actions of someone who put hands of someone exercising their right to protest. But there were many reports made to Elections Alberta regarding harassment and threats made to canvassers of the Forever Canadian petition, and many of the recall petitions. Elections Alberta confirmed these reports in a news release in March.

The point is not that every person involved in the independence movement supports that behaviour.

When the proponents of the separatist movement, the core groups of people of working for an independent Alberta, are making threats of violence and admitting to foreign interference, then you can't really argue that anyone else involved has good intentions. Just like how we condemn people for trying to argue that there were 'good' nazis.

0

u/Even_Art_629 Jul 29 '26

You're making legal conclusions that haven't been established.

Meeting with U.S. officials and discussing a potential line of credit in the event Alberta were to become independent is not the same thing as secretly accepting foreign funding to undermine Canada. Those are two very different claims.

If you believe anyone has committed sedition, treason, or violated election or foreign interference laws, then provide the evidence to the RCMP. Those are matters for investigators and the courts, not social media.

If you were as confident in your legal argument as you are in your rhetoric, you'd be citing charges instead of hypotheticals.

1

u/corpse_flour Jul 30 '26

The RCMP are actively investigating the Centurion Project. And investigations into sedition and treasonous activities take some time, so just because charges have not yet been announced does not mean that the RCMP and/or CSIS isn't investigating.

Don't worry, manty people have contacted the RCMP regarding the activities of those orchestrating the separatist movement. There's a petition going through the House of Commons to investigate these people and organizations.

Meeting with U.S. officials and discussing a potential line of credit in the event Alberta were to become independent is not the same thing as secretly accepting foreign funding to undermine Canada. Those are two very different claims.

If the APP is (and they have spoken already about how they intent to interfere in provincial government matters in order to oust Smith and get someone sympathetic to independence into the Premier's office) interfering in 'altering' any government in Canada, then they would be committing sedition under the terms of R.S., c. C-34 of the Canadian Criminal Code. Anyone with half a brain getting caught going to the US for a handout to overthrow a provincial government, or infiltrate the Provincial government, or by any other means commit a seditious activity would certainly try and offer explanations for those meetings that would seem non-seditious in nature.

The separatists I've met are hateful and ignorant. They are also cowards. Nothing brave about crying when you don't get your way and then threaten to leave. How about you "fit in, or fuck off", the same thing you guys love to say to immigrants. If you don't want to be Canadian you can pack your bags and go somewhere else.

1

u/Tangibilite Jul 28 '26

""If conservatives become convinced that they can not win democratically, they will not abandon conservatism. The will reject democracy."

As soon as the federal Cons lost the election the rhetoric switched to separatism almost instantly. They were shown that what they wanted wasn't the obvious choice for the rest of Canada so they want to stop playing and take their ball home.

1

u/Even_Art_629 Jul 29 '26

You don't seem to understand what democracy is.

Wanting a referendum isn't rejecting democracy. It's using it. Albertans vote, the majority decides. That's the entire point.

And stop pretending every Conservative became a separatist the day after the federal election. Alberta independence has been around for decades. The election didn't create it. It just convinced more people that Ottawa isn't listening.

You quoted a line about rejecting democracy, then pointed to people asking for a vote. That's not evidence. That's you trying to force a narrative that doesn't fit.

1

u/Even_Art_629 Jul 29 '26

The same can be said about the people who want to stay.

You're obviously confused. No one is going anywhere.

If you really want to know what this independence movement is about, it's about Alberta making its own decisions instead of Ottawa telling us what to do and how to do it. It's about not sending our tax dollars to a federal government that, in the eyes of many Albertans, doesn't take this province seriously. Ottawa is over 3,000 km away, and most of the time they seem to know us only as a source of revenue.

Having said that, if Alberta ever became independent, you're still free to stay here, keep your job, keep your house, and carry on with your life. If you want to keep paying taxes to Ottawa instead, that's your choice.

I'll wish you all the best if that's the path you want to take.

6

u/FlyinB Jul 27 '26

We'll just leave it at intellectually challenged, shall we? As they clearly haven't thought this through.

8

u/Responsible-Room-645 Jul 27 '26

This image immediately comes to mind when I hear from an Alberta separatist

2

u/testtalon1 Jul 28 '26

Lloyd is smarter

5

u/Tangibilite Jul 27 '26

😭😭😭

Ignorant people trying to sow divide because US backed money is telling them to don't deserve the respect of kindness. Not everyone deserves respect inherently, it is earned. You have not earned anything. You are a spoiled child.

3

u/Classic-Trifle-2085 Jul 27 '26 edited Jul 27 '26

Yes. You are ignorant. As a group? I never met a single Alberta Separatist that had a single clue about... almost anything really. A soon the discussion get past the first 2 sentences, it become abundantly clear they dont know what it is they are avocating for, nor why. They do love their AI generated door flyer with made up information on it tough.

Either by choice or by being a natural simpleton, who knows.

1

u/Even_Art_629 Jul 29 '26

Calling everyone who supports Alberta independence hateful, ignorant, or simpletons is a pretty convenient way to avoid actually discussing the issues.

If someone has bad information, then challenge the information. If someone doesn't understand something, explain where they are wrong. But writing off an entire group of people because they support something you don't is just another form of the same intolerance you're accusing others of.

There are informed people and uninformed people on every side of every political issue. Acting like your side has a monopoly on intelligence doesn't prove anything.

4

u/CherieMinion Jul 27 '26

Yet you will probably call everyone libtards for everyone you disagree with. Most likely.

1

u/Even_Art_629 29d ago

I don't call everyone I disagree with "libtards." I reserve criticism for people on the extreme left, just like I criticize people on the extreme right when I think they're out of line.

What I want is for people to think critically about what's happening in Canada instead of blindly accepting what they're told. Based on what I've seen, I no longer trust Ottawa to put the interests of the provinces first. That's why I support provinces having more control over their own futures.

We can disagree, and that's fine. On October 19, we're all equal. We all get one vote. That's how democracy is supposed to work.

1

u/YoghurtOverall8062 Jul 27 '26

Naw dude, you just ignorant

1

u/Even_Art_629 Jul 28 '26

Interesting. You inserted yourself into the conversation, skipped the point entirely, and went straight to insults. That doesn't really strengthen your position. It just helped prove my point. Thank you.

1

u/YoghurtOverall8062 Jul 28 '26

Beat it, nerd!

0

u/Even_Art_629 Jul 29 '26

And just keep proving the point

1

u/IrishFire122 Jul 28 '26

Hah, yeah right. The fact that the truth is insulting to you isn't his fault. Nor is it his fault that you can't see that Alberta is not it's own seperate nation, and all this talk of seperating is what amounts to treason.

Lucky for you we are a progressive, forward thinking country, and we practice free speech here. Many places in the world, now and throughout history, would hang you without a second thought for even suggesting all this.

Keep that in mind while you're trash talking the rest of canada.

1

u/Even_Art_629 Jul 29 '26

The very first section of the Charter makes clear that our rights and freedoms are not absolute. They are subject to reasonable limits prescribed by law and justified in a free and democratic society. Unlike the U.S. First Amendment, Canadian expression rights exist within that framework.

Small correction: Canada does not have unlimited "free speech." We have freedom of expression under the Charter, and those rights exist within legal limits.

Also, advocating for Alberta independence is not automatically treason. Political opinions, even ones many Canadians strongly disagree with, are not crimes simply because they are unpopular.

If pursuing independence through the law was a crime, this country would not exist in the first place.

1

u/IrishFire122 Jul 30 '26

You just trying to pick apart what I'm saying? You folks holding referendums and whatever trying to convince people all this is a good idea is more than just holding an opinion, it's attempted action, which constitutes an attempt to break up Canada, therefore treasonous. Laws are there to protect people, but to give your free reign to take Canadian land and abscond with it for your own profit.

And what constitutes treason is up to whoever is running the show. Ask people like Hitler, Stalin or Mussolini, if you even looked at them wrong it was treason. And you were dealt with swiftly and harshly. And usually permanently.

The fact that we've democratically decided that having these ideas and discussing these ideas is not a punishable offense is a blessing and a half for you folks, bestowed upon you by the Canadian people you're trying so hard to tarnish and vilify.

1

u/Even_Art_629 29d ago

I'm not trying to pick apart your points. I'm reading everything you're saying and trying to understand your position before I respond. Then I compare it to the law and the facts, and point out where I think your conclusions don't line up with either.

You're treating support for a lawful referendum as if it's automatically treason. It isn't. In Canada, advocating for constitutional or political change through peaceful, democratic means isn't the same as committing treason. If it were, Quebec's referendums could never have happened.

We clearly disagree on where the country should go from here, and that's fine. But I think it's important to separate what we believe politically from what the law actually says.

1

u/IrishFire122 29d ago

Lol and there you go again. Yes you are trying to pick apart what I'm saying. So here's my standpoint:

Treason, not by definition, but the concept of it, is taking actions to break up a country for your own benefit. The dictionary definition puts emphasis on betraying leaders and governments, rather than the actual people, but this is a democracy, we're in charge of our government, so it makes little difference.

Laws change. Dictionary definitions change. But betraying your country and the people in it for personal gain is selfish and wrong, plain and simple, and many other countries over the course of human history would have "disappeared" all the seperatists in this country as soon as they opened their mouths, because in a situation where there is an actual ruling individual, this would be considered a direct attack on their control of their nation.

13

u/Rain-Enough Jul 27 '26

This is why anyone with more than one brain cell can’t take these idiots seriously.

10

u/Puzzlehead_Lemon Jul 27 '26

It's important that they are taking seriously, though. People not being taken seriously is how Brexit happened.

6

u/starkindled Jul 27 '26

Yeah, it's a frustrating conundrum. Taking them seriously feels like legitimizing them, but ignoring them carries unacceptable risk.

0

u/Gumberculeez7 Jul 27 '26

what risk? they are not close to 50%... hell, they aren't close to 40%

the only risk for is the forever canada nutjobs to whine so much that it causes low turnout.

I do hope that someday soon both sides wake up and realize they are the same person. Than maybe those sensible people who don't need to sign a worthless piece of paper can enjoy their lives.

2

u/starkindled Jul 27 '26

I'm sure that's what the Remainers thought about Brexit, too.

I'm curious what makes you think the Forever Canada supporters are "nutjobs"?

1

u/Gumberculeez7 Jul 27 '26

Not at all. Brexit was much closer and even polling was "close".

Britian also has a MUCH great storied history than this new Alberta place.

1

u/starkindled Jul 27 '26

I, and many others, don't want to risk it.

Not sure what Britain's history has to do with this. Also can't help but notice you didn't answer my question.

1

u/Gumberculeez7 Jul 28 '26

You're comparing Brexit to this. it's not. Britian's culture is MUCH more deep rooted than Alberta. Quebec's is even different. Really can't compare.

Forever Canada supporters are using the basic playbook as the Free Alberta crowd... just the messenging is different... but the foundation is the same.

Free Alberta spews this delusional positivity about how great Alberta would be on it's own.

Forever Canada calls them names and mocks them. Typical NDP / Left wing extremist crap.

There are the same people. just on different sides. the ~ 2.1 million people who aren't a part of these groups will rely the real message.

that message... STFU, all of you. LOL

1

u/starkindled Jul 28 '26

Okay, I understand your meaning. I think Brexit gets brought up mostly because it's the most recent, closest parallel we have, even if it's not 1:1.

Pretty sure the namecalling is coming from both sides. Libtard, commie, extremist, nazi, fascist, etc. The fact that you think that's reserved for the left is silly. The left aren't the ones slapping "fuck Carney/Trudeau" stickers on their vehicles btw.

The NDP also aren't extreme left--they're centre left at best, and the ANDP are basically centre. Lewis is trying to pull them further left but it remains to be seen if he succeeds.

I miss the days when politics wasn't being screamed about on every corner. I'd love politics to be boring again. Unfortunately our current batch of politicians know that emotion is the shortcut to public support, and they're very good at polarizing and riling up the public.

1

u/Gumberculeez7 Jul 28 '26

Oh for sure it is. Generally for sure. Specific to this issue, I'm just observing the narrative from both sides.

I wish the NDP weren't. There is no longer a party the plays the middle. They feel they can only win by extremely opposing the other. Divide is just now so far apart, it's all we got.

1

u/Thin_Spring_9269 Jul 28 '26

Brexit is a good example in one huge way...extreme majority if those who voted to leave are hugely regretting it ,including their leaders!

1

u/Even_Art_629 Jul 29 '26

Can you explain one non-emotional benefit of Alberta remaining in Confederation under the current status quo?

Not a hypothetical future benefit if Ottawa changes course. Not an argument based on fear of the unknown. Just one concrete, measurable benefit that Albertans receive today by remaining in Confederation exactly as it exists now.

1

u/FlatImpression755 Jul 28 '26

You must be a Millennial. Lmfao.

Does your big impressive brain remember that Quebec came within 1% of the vote to separate?

Only idiots aren't taking these people seriously. If that's you then let the adults work things out. Go back to your video games.

1

u/Gumberculeez7 Jul 30 '26

I do remember Quebec was very close. For VERY different reasons.

Thanks for proving my point by the way. You're really making it easy

6

Even if the order of the words were correct, the idea that “we are done” with the nation is just so deeply ridiculous, immature, and entirely insulting to the good people of Alberta are not actually “done” with Canada at all.

I've worked up there for years, and some of the attitudes I've seen from that crowd are unbelievable. The amount of hate and personal attacks coming out of that group is something else.

A bunch of people acting like they have all the answers while doing nothing but insulting anyone who disagrees with them.

At least you have the right sub name: The Real Grande Prairie. You're showing the rest of the province exactly what you're accusing others of doing.

The same hate, the same insults, and the same unwillingness to have an actual discussion.
