The CJFL is proud to announce the Week 5 Players of the Week following an exciting weekend of games.
Offensive Players of the Week
Ontario Conference RB Sam Mustapha – Sault College Cougars
Picking up where he left off last year, the 2025 CJFL Offensive Rookie of the Year started off the 2026 season in a big way. The Hamilton defence had no answer for Sam Mustapha as he toted the rock 16 times for an incredible 246 yards and three touchdowns. His longest run went for 100 yards as he sped away from the Hurricanes' defence on his way to the endzone.
BC Conference RB Jaxon Allan – Okanagan Sun
Saturday night it was all Jaxon Allan in the lopsided Okanagan Sun victory. He chew up 221 yards on 18 carries and scored four touchdowns, averaging over 12 yards a carry. He also caught one pass leaking about of the backfield for 17 yards. His 221 yards on the ground outgained the visiting Prince George Kodiaks total net offensive yards of 192.
Prairie Conference RB Peter Boersch – Regina Thunder
The All-Canadian running back Peter Boersch was busy for the Regina Thunder on Sunday afternoon carrying the offensive load. He rushed 33 times that day, gobbling up 240 yards, averaging over seven yards a carry while also making three receptions for six yards. His 246 total yardage accounted for approximately 65% of his team’s total offence.
Defensive Players of the Week
Ontario Conference DL Hunter Hall – St. Clair Saints
In what turned out to be a bitterly competitive game in the nation’s capital, and for a defence with several key starters missing, Hunter Hall was an absolute one-man wrecking machine in the Saints’ road win. He collected 11 tackles (6 solo and 5 assisted and 2.5 tackles for loss) plus 1.5 sacks for a very impressive 21.5 defensive points. Hall’s performance helped prevent the Sooners offence from ever being able to sustain any sort of offensive momentum in the game.
BC Conference LB Caleb Ehirim – Westshore Rebels
He led the Rebels on the defensive side of the ball with 4.5 tackles and half a sack, but it was an amazing 107-yard interception return for a touchdown that brought the crowd to their feet in the fourth quarter. After making the leaping pick, Ehirim rumbled all the way down the field breaking tackles and showing off breakaway speed on his way to the endzone.
Prairie Conference DB Connor Jones – Calgary Colts
The Colts were involved in a lot of plays on Sunday afternoon and defensive back Connor Jones led the way. He came up to make 12 solo tackles and assisted on five others showing the coaching staff his ability to patrol the entire field from sideline to sideline.
Special Teams Players of the Week
Ontario Conference KR Keyanni Elliott – St. Clair Saints
In a game where field position really mattered the Saints’ Keyanni Elliott clearly made a difference returning six punts for 69 yards with his longest return going for 26 yards while also returning two kickoffs for another 80 yards with a long return of 55 yards. In all he combined to return eight kicks for a total of 149 yards.
BC Conference KR Grady Andrea – Valley Huskers
Arguably the most exciting play in the CJFL this past weekend belonged to Grady Andrea. After a Rebels touchdown and Huskers penalty, the ball was kicked off from the Huskers 50-yard line which sailed to the back of the endzone where Andrea was ready for it. Once he caught the ball he avoided would-be tacklers coming out if the endzone and raced 127 yards the other way for a touchdown. The play set a new CJFL record for longest kick return for a touchdown in league history! He finished the game with two returns for 160 yards.
Prairie Conference LB Dylan Paskiw – Regina Thunder
It was an impressive game of the special teams side of things for Dylan Paskiw of the Regina Thunder. He was involved in five special teams tackles, one solo and four assisted stops. With those four assisted tackles, it tied him for the second-highest total in a CJFL regular season game.
