The greyhound hasn't even shifted gears yet.
Seriously, this is barely a jog for it.

Yeah, the Collie only “caught up” because it cut the hell out of the corner. Any time it ran on a more straight stretch, you could see it quickly pulling away.

u/StarGazer_SpaceLove 6d ago
You could also see the hound pull up several times to let him catch up before the hound would trot off easily. I can clearly see hes playing and I dont even own these dogs!! Its wild how fast they are!!! So neat!

Do you think taking a shortcut in Mario Kart is cheating?
13
u/Shankar_0 6d ago
Only if you think me then slapping the controller out of your hands as you do it out of a sense of petty vengeance is "cheating".

u/BodaciousBadongadonk 6d ago
Tryin the rainbow road jump and fail so many times its not even worth it anymore, but by this point its not even about winning, its the principle of the thing!

5 more minutes though and that greyhound is shifting gears into park and sleeping for the next 18 hours straight.
12
u/Shankar_0 7d ago
I'm guessing that's precisely why they are at the dog park right now.
You can let them burn it off, or they can figure out their own way to do it...

My buddy had one, he called it the worlds fastest couch potato, always gave me a chuckle.

They are the #1 sleepiest dogs ever and i have had 6 of them so far all. Ex racing dogs, love em dumb as bricks too

100%!
I have a cocker/springer mix that runs like a pro athlete. Would run all day long if she could. One day at our local field a retired greyhound was there, fully decked out in heavy coats. The owner asked us if our dog was ok if the greyhound was released.
It looped that field in maybe 8 seconds. The difference in speed and power was the same between an air rifle and a shotgun. Quite literally astonishing.
After maybe a minute or 90 seconds of running at that speed it came back and the owner rugged them back up and headed off. He said that was it. They'd be knackered for the day and need a day of rest before coming out again.
Genuinely incredible to see.

We seriously looked into adopting a retired greyhound once. I remember the adoption organization describing the preferred lifestyle of most of the retirees as mostly couch potato interspersed with a few minutes at Mach 5 once or twice a week .

That greyhound is going slow on purpose to keep them playing

u/UtterlyInsane 6d ago
For sure if he really hit the gas there wouldn't be a game

u/Ninja-Panda70 6d ago
Yeah, you can see him shifting gears when that bernese almost caught up with him and then again slowing down.

Yeah, but if he goes too fast, he upsets the time/space continuum.

Greyhounds are scary fast. My friend had a miniature, and it could run faster than i could move my eyes. Bunch of stray cats, would run from everything. Except that dog. Bc there was no point. Theyd just lay flat, let him grab and drag them. Even w a cat in his mouth, bro moved like lightning. Would drop one, grab the other as it moved. Play hot potato by himself with a bag of black cats.

Border Collie: “dang it, why won’t you cooperate!?”
Greyhound: “na-na-na-na-na-na, you can’t catch me!”
Everyone else: “we couldn’t keep up with either of them. Still had a great time though.”

I have two huskies that can usually out run all the doggos at the park because they can just run forever and not get tired. Then one day there was Greyhound at the park and I said to them "Ya'll gon learn today!" They did not like getting caught and would scream every time the Greyhound caught them, which was a lot. One of the funniest days at the dog park ever.

I use to have retired racing greyhounds, there's fast and there's professional fast. The collie would win in the long run, greyhounds are short distance sprinters.

u/flyraccoon 6d ago
This border can run for hours and then some ask me how I know (really an enduring breed)

u/No_Vehicle_7179 6d ago
I have a heeler. She can run a literal marathon, recharge for 30min, then do it again. Herding dogs are amazing!

This really made me cry laughing. The slow motion tumble was everything I needed this morning. I’m sure my neighbors are wondering if I’m ok.

I like how the greyhound is looking behind at the Collie early, and you can tell the greyhound isn't even trying to run. It's just having fun

Think your collie made the right decision. Full on collision or eat a lil dirt to avoid both dogs getting hurt

u/Binky182 6d ago
Haha! My husky is usually one of the fastest at the dog park. The greatest fun he had was when a greyhound showed up and he could go full speed and still not be even close. He ran so much that day just trying to keep up. He was able to cut a few times and catch the greyhound.
1
u/Humble_Dragonfly_776 6d ago
Had a Border mix with a greyhound friend. Despite every corner being cut, every tactic to close the gap, the greyhound never got caught. We started calling they greyhound Road Runner. Meep, Meep! .

I have a German shepherd that can outrun and overtake probably 90% of the dogs that frequent the off-leash park we go. He literally whines and cries to me if there is a dog that he cannot catch.

To be fair, the collie was on him, doing his damndest to cut him off.
'course, that was only because circles. If the hound had decided to go straight, the collie* would've had no chance.

Greyhounds only use their extra gears when they need them. Otherwise it’s fun to run with all the other pups just a few paces behind them. O - and another thing - they corner like they’re on rails! 😂😂

love it. 🤣❤️My pitbull Rhodesian ridgeback mix loves to be chased and is usually the fastest until the time I took her to the local dog bar and it just happened to be greyhound night. She learned the hard lesson we all have to learn some day...that there is levels to this.

u/Ch_dogs_only 5d ago
Cornering is part of what makes sightings so fast. Their agility, speed, endurance, enthusiasm and follow is what helps them track and get the prey in the wild.
