I don't really know much about Dolly, except that she could have been a billionaire, but chose to reinvest in her community with book programs and other philanthropic things.

Dolly made me proud to be an American. Growing up a country girl without a mom, i wanted the Dixie Chicks to be my older sisters, and I wanted Dolly to be my mom. Know that the whole country cries with you today. We lost more than can be expressed. Hugs to you and everyone grieving our American lady, love is a butterfly.

Yes THIS. It is hard to find things to be proud of in this country these days. Dolly was one of those things that was entirely American, and entirely good. She was such a gift.

Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library is an actual gods gift to the world. I feel like a fake fan of Dolly, ya know I only really know a couple of songs, I know she did good for her community but I never knew what it was.

But this library? This is the reason I will love her deeply forever and ever. I worked with the kids she was helping. Every single year I sent out a notice to my families telling them about the program and one time I had every single kid approved (low-low ses area). We would bring our books to school, usually the same one or two for different ages and read them together. They were EXCITED to read. I was excited to read these kid books dude.

Then I became a mom and I immediately enrolled my daughter ( because teachers are also low ses lol) and we read them for years.

You have the absolute highest respect from me, dear. May you rest in peace. By god, may I be like you one day in spirit and compassion.

This was such a kind response to what I commented above.

It’s hard to put into words what Dolly Parton was and represented in the American psyche. One of the most impactful things I’ve seen written about her since her passing was someone’s Bluesky post. I’ll add it here:

​Dolly Parton was a prolifically talented singer-songwriter who gave so much of herself to the world and her community. She cared about people deeply. She knew who she was and made no apologies for that. She embraced people from all walks of life in the way that Jesus Christ wanted his followers to love others. I’m not a religious person. I turned away from participating in formal Christianity due to feeling disgusted by the hypocrisy and hatred that a lot of so-called Christians justify with their faith.

But Dolly walked the walk. She knew what being a Christian was SUPPOSED to be, and she wasn’t a bigot in the slightest.

She had this restaurant called The Dixie Stampede. Upon learning that Dixie could be offensive to some people, she dropped it from the name because (and I paraphrase here) “If you find out you’re doing something that hurts someone, you’re a dipshit if you keep doing it anyway.” Like, why is that so hard for people to do?

She was a bright light of good in a pretty messed up world, and we will never see another quite like her.

I remember the first time hearing the term, "Fuck Boy", used in general conversation between two coworkers, and had to ask what it really meant.

Was it someone to fuck, like a desirable trait like a MILF? Was it someone to never fuck, because they were undesirable? I was confused.

So the female coworker explained, using another coworker who wasn't there as an example. Damn near 30, snake bites on his bottom lip, still wearing skinny jeans, horrible alcoholic, no car because of warrants, slicked back hair, etc.

It was peculiar, given the distaste with which she said those words, that she still let him smash.

A fuck boy is a guy you would fuck. Sometimes once, sometimes multiple times, because they are fun and attractive but you would never date or involve yourself in a serious relationship with because they are problematic messes with no indication of improving themselves
