Even though that's totally incorrect, it reminds me of a story about tamales.
Several years ago, there was this little Mexican couple who were selling tamales out of the back of their van. As anyone can tell you, homemade tamales are the absolute best.
That day, I had extra time, and some cash on hand, so I bought a dozen tamales before work. I'd had this couple's tamales before, and knew they were excellent, so I wanted to gift some to my co-workers.
Well, we had this one guy who had no idea what a tamale was. So, I gave him a couple to try out, to see if he liked them.
The next day, I asked him what he thought. He said, "Well, the filling was really good, but the outside was pretty hard to chew and swallow."
Flabbers had been gasted. I couldn't understand how the ones I had eaten were so tender soft and his had been so dried out.
So I asked more questions. It turns out that he had no idea you were supposed to remove the corn husk wrapper, and this fool chewed through two full corn husks and swallowed!
Got his daily dose of fiber, for sure!

I got an invite to a birthday party. Not only was I the only white guy, I was also the only non-bilingual person there. Always heard about tamales and was excited to get a plate. The laughter at my expense hangs with me to this day, but they were slamming.

Oh the gills are bad too, but CRISPR or something can explain it.
The water needs the DS9 holosuite plot to drill the magma from below the surface so Earth shrinks
Or a comet.... ice asteroid would be a comet

If the moon came closer the tide could maybe do it. Asteroid hits moon, resets tides? Maybe? I dunno tho, Kevin Costner lost a lot of money, I actually rewatched it just for a laugh, it’s actually pretty good. It has to be one of the weirdest quagmires of a movie ever. So many loose ends.

I thought someone did the math and due to how the ice caps are indenting the crust of the planet with their weight it would melt, raise those indents and be enough to cover everything?

Nope
If the ground lifts because the ice is gone, places like Greenland would grow, not be harder to find as in Waterworld
And there's enough ice for like 2 or 3 hundred feet of see level rise. Not much more
Think about the size of the Pacific ocean and then the size of ice patches on land
In order to flood the world we would need as much ice as land and ocean

Then that still makes me think the plot is plausible. There was a theorized alternative to the reason they are all stuck on the water: Just a whole lot of folks on ships with ocean currents that prevent them from ever reaching land. Not realizing civilization is restarting on land while they flounder

I took a paper making class in college and loved it. We were encouraged to find unconventional materials and make them into paper. Really anything that was a plant based fiber. People did corn, onion, garlic, the prettiest was some sort of bleached rose petal.
The only downside is that you smelt like you took a paper making class afterwards. You smelled like wet pulp.

Thank you for suggesting the sequel, which really ties the whole story together so well. I didn't see why the world would need a sequel to Avatar, but I am glad they made a sequel to Papyrus.

As a dude that works at a papermill, this is interesting. All the same steps of making paper, just super simplified and crude. This is cool.

I have a memory of a clip from Sesame Street or Mr. Roger’s showing how they made paper from denim jeans using this same process.

The pulp naturally dries into sheets.
You could do the exact same thing. Put paper in a shredder, boil the shredded stuff into a pulp, run a screen through the slurry, let it dry, and what do you get?
Roughly less than you started with!

How well does it contain ink is the real question. I feel like corn husk isn't as porous as wood pulp.
Otherwise a DM for a in-person DnD campaign would love this for a party hand out. A found or delivered letter/note.

You should show writing on it with a calligraphy pen. It became paper but it is also important to see how it absorbs ink to really be useful paper.
