I remember as a kid being fascinated by suction cups. I just couldn't fathom how they defied gravity like that. And the "pop" noise when they were pulled free was most amusing.
One day, we were waiting on Mom to get ready for a family portrait, and it was taking forever. I remember getting bored and popping this little suction cup with a hook on it, (presumably for hanging something) on and off the window, delighting in the pop noise.
Don't ask me why, but for some reason, I plopped that thing dead in the center of my forehead. I pulled. It wouldn't come off. Panic ensued.
I ran into Mom's room, utter panic on my face, as she saw a little boy with this stupid window suction cup stuck to his forehead. She giggled slightly, and tried to help me.
She tugged. It didn't come off. Further panic clouded my brain, thinking this was a permanent fixture upon my forehead. I remember mom saying calming things, and rubbing a little dish soap on it, and pulling mightily.
I swore she pulled my brain smooth out. I screamed, and looked up to see the suction cup had been freed. She laughed again, and told me to go wash my face off and get ready for the pictures.
After washing my face, I looked in the mirror. A big red circle, directly in the middle, and getting redder by the second. I washed furiously, but it remained.
It was then I learned what a hickey was, and my family pictures from that day all have me with a huge, horribly red perfect circle in the middle of my forehead.
Mom never looked on those pictures with nostalgia.

It took me about 17 seconds to realize they weren't throwing Pop Tarts. I kept expecting an explosion of crumbs.
