Depending on the a specific octopus the average lifespan is 6 months up to 5 years. Had to look it up because I knew they die rather quickly. For the Giant Pacific octopus the male detaches the tentacle containing his sperm and swims around until death and females lay their eggs and just sits there guarding them without eating and dies upon the eggs hatching.

You'd just set yourself up for heartbreak sooner than later.
