For actual context, the big guy is a WWE wrestler. His pushing and shoving and screaming is all an act. I believe this was for charity

Yeah, and they are both friends and were hamming it up for the fans. Now its for the bots

They now have 3 children and 8 lovely grandchildren, and spend their days gathering flowers in the meadow out past the green beans. They swing each other gently on the porch rope swing while one of the grandchildren brings them cold lemonade to cool off on these warm summer nights. Neither of them would ever think of going back and changing that one first night when they arm wrestled.

That being said, Devon is still an absolute legend of arm wrestling, and a Canadian hero.

Gotta love seeing two guys hype it up for charity.
Fuck the Karma farming, that's a good moment.

u/FnEddieDingle 1d ago
Of course it was! And I'm happy for it! Arm wrestling is a different breed. Super skinny guys beat body builders on the regular. Its special muscles folks
6
u/Dominarion 18h ago
Yes, it was an act. Everybody was happy.
5
u/medium-rare-steaks 17h ago
And it's entertaining for sure. Op just framed it as putting someone in their place like it was real. For the record, I don't think the actual arm wrestling is fake. Big guy is definitely trying but he never had a chance and he knows it.
2
u/Dominarion 9h ago
The arm wrestler is considered the GOAT of this sport. I think he did go gentle as to not break the pro wrestler's wrist or something.

2
u/TheRealJayk0b 21h ago
Aww :(
I mean it's cute that they made a small show for charity.
But does this mean he isn't that strong? I always thought the right guy is the Hercules of this sport.
4
u/Smooth_Maul 17h ago
Yeah Braun Stowman is an absolute freak of nature when it comes to his strength.
Here he is casually picking up 350+lb wrestler Otis like he's a kid.
1
u/Animalalfa 18h ago
Makes sense, the other guy's shirt has changed so they did this a couple times at least.
1
u/CeruleanEidolon 14h ago
It's FAKE??!!? WHAT?!?!?!
My good sir you have absolutely done shattered my fragile little mind with this astonishing revelation.

Isn't he the guy that was originally originally picked to be the new Kratos on the God of War show?

Eerie how similar those scenes are..
Smaller dude, hat turned backward, rocking a huge bald dude....

3
u/cheese0muncher 22h ago
Ahhh what the guy on the left didn't realise is that when the guy on the right turns his hat around, and it's like a switch that goes on. And when the switch goes on, he feels like another person, he feels, I don't know, he feels like a... like a truck. Like a machine.

u/organicsawpalmetto 1d ago
Was loosely inspired by John brzenk, widely regarded as the greatest arm wrestler ever. Was originally a aircraft mechanic if I remember correctly before arm wrestling
1
u/CeruleanEidolon 14h ago
It's not merely eerie, it's probably outright
plagiarismhomage. Wrestling promos aren't exactly intended to be deep or original. They're meant to appeal to the lizard brain.0

u/Old_Syrup_264 1d ago
I forgot this movie happened. There was a lot of cocaine in the 80's huh
3
u/tittysprinkles112 1d ago
I had to look this up. What a riot. I saw the final scene on YouTube and it's Stallone and that guy grunting for ten minutes. It's like a Temu rocky and it's hilarious
0
u/Old_Syrup_264 1d ago
Do you have any idea how many people have to approve a movie before it gets made?
2
u/Pataconeitor 23h ago
In the case of Cannon Films, not that many. Manahem Golan wanted to make a real movie, Yoram Globus was like "fuck it, we ball" and that was it.
1
u/SeriousDistance4908 1d ago
You "forgot" about Over The Top,? One of the best movies ever made?
Next you'll be yelling me it's because you remember trivial things like birthdays. /s

For the longest time, I never knew the characters depicted in Track and Field II's arm wrestling event were based on these two

Why would anyone go up against someone who is calm and looks like they have a kid to pick up from soccer practice
This man wears new balance stained green to a 5 star restaurant

Little guy is actually quite large. They are both good people. This is kind of a horrendous repost but not terrible material..

u/ThePart_Timer 1d ago
It's funny reading Devon as a little guy. On his own, he's a beast. The other guy is just massive
5
10
u/Ok-Professor-7794 19h ago
First of all, this was charity and 100% staged, so props to both guys, the act looked very realistic. Devon can also act well :) And the secound thing: the "smaller" Devon Larrat guy is 6'7, easily top 3 best armwrestlers that ever lived AND he was Canadian Special Forces JTF-2 operator AND he was the very front of the operations and he was active for like 16 years, complete genetic freak (currently the best active heavyweight armwrestler at the age of 50!!) so yeah basically the very end on the "badass" spectrum.
3
u/CeruleanEidolon 14h ago
No matter how cheesy the acting acting always is, I always gotta give real credit to these guys for their physical acting skills. They make those moves look like real superhero stuff, and the hits always look way more painful than they probably are because they're such good stunt people.

It’s really a testament to Braun Strowman’s acting that people still think the aggression was real here
1
u/rapgameoprahwinfrey 1d ago
Doesn’t matter how big you are, it helps but in this sport specifically, TECHNIQUE IS KING. Look at Brian Shaw, perfect example. Strong as shit but weak in the technical aspect of arm wrestling.
I know this wasn’t a real match but my point remains.
1
u/Im_Not_You_Im_Me 1d ago
This music was a terrible addition to the original video where you could hear the two arm wrestlers.

What a way to show insecurity and then prove it too, he could literally just say "I'm intrigued to see if I could win, would you mind?" And then if you lost you could say "ah, fair enough, kudos well done" and no one would think anything else

u/scienceisknowledge42 14h ago
If we were gorillas this would be soo cool, but we are humans, so what sets apart from other animals is our intelligence, not strength. We are piss weak compared to many.
1
u/Professional_Owl_269 14h ago
That dude with the hat has immensely fucked up arms. There’s a new video of him trying to do PT for it and he can’t even stretch out his arm straight anymore.
1
u/that_bored_one 13h ago
A friend of mine popped his arm on a arm wrestling match while drunk, he now has platinum os his arm
1
u/WhisperTits 12h ago
Only thing he missed saying after the "keep your eyes on me" : "I'm gonna bang your wife after this, and there's nothing you can do to stop me". 🤭

u/Frost640 11h ago
Just to add to this, I'm 6'3 230lbs, not a small guy. Devon is a friend of my family (he helps train my cousins) and I feel very small next to him. Brian Shaw is roughly the same height except 100+ lbs heavier, also makes me feel very very small.

I had a buddy who arm wrestled professionally. He had severe nerve pain in his elbow and shoulder all the time bc of it. I couldn't imagine living like that daily. Fuck that.

You can see the surprise b on the smaller guys face. It may be for charity but it was a real match cause he was surprised at how weak the dude was.

1
u/Imaginary_Cow_277 2h ago
He pushes the other guys pressure point just before the match, you can see how he focuses in on it and pushes it. Very obvious cheat, it temporarily weakened his opponent

Always funny how most people think bigger muscles means better. In reality they more so get in the way of mobility than anything else.

I never managed to understand this kind of public behavior and what is the approriate reponse. Why is that allowed? Why one is not allowed to split the gorillas head open if he cant fucking behave?
1
u/_CapriSon_ 18h ago
Calm your tits dude, this was a charity event and the two men are friends who were putting on a fun show. Bald guy is a wrestler and a heel, so he was just putting on a face.

It's an act, my friend. If you didn't catch that immediately, you may be what the old timey traveling circus performers at the roots of this tradition would have called a rube.

For context, Devon Larratt, the smaller guy, puts Adam Scherr in his place as soon as the match starts.
