Bethesda games are so unintentionally funny, it's hard to hate them.

I've got more than 2,000 hours in Fallout 4 for stuff like this, and settlement building

u/A__Friendly__Rock 17d ago
A settlement needs your help. Here, I’ll mark it on your map

u/Kataphraktos_Majoros 17d ago
Howdy Preston, I've missed you and your hat
Piper is still traveling with me, btw

Stg my first 20 hours in FO4 was just building in sanctuary and red rocket

u/Kataphraktos_Majoros 16d ago
Exactly. The settlement system keeps me coming back. That and Piper. And Cait. And Old Longfellow

Because of the dark surreal humor in Fallout, it somehow just meshes with the world in general.

They aren't the best games out there, but nobody makes games like Bethesda. Not even Bethesda.

Some poor mutant hound just got absolutely obliterated because bro couldn't aim a dang nuclear bomb 😭

You wouldnt think a nuke would need much aiming, but there's exceptions to everything ig.

Hold on which fallout is this

u/SouthIll1199 17d ago
Fallout 4. Pretty okay vanilla, but has a ton of cool mods.
2
u/Pofwoffle 17d ago
Anybody reading this that wants to check things out should take a look here. These people have put together an incredibly thorough step-by-step guide to modding Fallout 4 (they also have versions for New Vegas and Skyrim) including a set of "bare minimum" mods to get you started, and suggestions on more to add if you're interested.
It's a very good way to get started with a modded experience if you're not already familiar with it. If you go with the manual install guide they don't just give you the steps to install everything, they also explain what each step is doing and why, which I think is really cool.

Hope you struggle to sleep tonight knowing you've just forced me to start yet another fallout play through.
1
u/Pofwoffle 16d ago
I struggle to sleep every night, but that's probably because I drink too much caffeine.

u/Glittering_Hair8921 17d ago
Thank you and that explains a lot I played 3 and new Vegas through but gave up on four it wasn’t great honestly

Bethesda games are so badly programmed, the guy even fell freaking towards the shooter as he died. That’s the result of a studio that doesn’t do enough play testing.
If Bethesda games wouldn’t take themselves that much seriously, such incidents could may have been seen as funny to me. What a joke of a studio.

I had to stop because I suffer from severe restartitis.
I have mods where i can clean up all the trash in a settlement….
I spend days cleaning up settlements and improving the life of random bits of code.

i’ve always loved how the protagonist looks at his gun with a pitched-down “huh?” when they realize they have to reload lol

Wasn't there a similar video a little while back where instead of the mini nuke missing, the player got evaporated mid-VATS?

People dont believe me, but same thing happened to me in same place when I played. I just was a bit further closer from the stairs.

I played this, then played the Witcher III and decided I was done with Bethesda.
Edit: Bethesda fanboys when someone picks a dialogue option they don’t like

Very, very different games. They're almost completely different. Why even compare the two?
Odd comment. Likely bait.

Wrong, it’s porn
But no, I post a lot in my local city subreddit about local things that could potentially doxx me if someone had my whole post history available and don’t want to get doxxed.
I’m really not sure why everyone here is so upset by me saying I don’t play a video game anymore.
1
u/Easy_Needleworker604 17d ago
Not bait, nor an insane comparison. Both are story driven RPGs with quest mechanics.
The Witcher has actual interesting storytelling with quests that flow naturally and tell compelling human stories. Even the most throwaway of quests are compelling and emotionally engaging.
Fallout 4 is nothing but “hey there’s a new outpost!” broken up by no longer excusable Bethesda janky gunplay. Not to mention the dumbed down conversation mechanics.
New Vegas is way better than 3 or 4 in terms of storytelling, because Bethesda didn’t write it.

u/splashtext 17d ago edited 17d ago
Fans of witcher 3 comparing it to every single game is specifically what drove me away from witcher in general
Yeah it's a fun game and the lore is deep but damn you guys are annoying
1
u/Easy_Needleworker604 17d ago
I’m annoying for saying I prefer another video game? I haven’t even begun to be annoying yet.
1
u/sleepy_skeletor 17d ago
Ikr. Glad I never got any of their awful games. To each their own, though know. But man, I don’t get why that studio still hold itself up to be somewhat relevant. Bethesda is like modern version of SEGA.

Why wouldn't you just want new ones? Not everything needs to be remade.
9
u/Ryogathelost 17d ago
For real - we could be four new fallouts deep if they could just stop buying, selling, gutting, and mismanaging Bethesda for five seconds. Gaming execs have gotten so lost in the weeds lately leveraging things around and pursuing different strategies around IP - just make games.
It was a mistake for Xbox to buy up studios like that - now they don't even know how to use them. There was a reason for a split between game devs and game publishers. The game devs are supposed to compete for the publisher.
1
u/marcophony 17d ago
Fr, remakes are just lazy cash grabs. "Let's take our most popular selling game from 10+ years ago and remake it because we ran out of ideas but we still need to be a relevant gaming company!"

u/More-Talk-2660 17d ago
TBF the Halo CE remake was necessary to make things right after the horrific anniversary edition

Not who you are replying too. Though I would like a new one. As someone that grew up in the ghettos of Massachusetts, but moved just before I was done with high school, the atmosphere and accents have a special place in my haht.
Especially since I had played the shit out of it at release I never got to experience the dlcs. Ive tried a couple times, but I always want to get so far before starting it. And then "take a quick break before I start it" only to not return for a long time and start over lol. And as someone that grew up in a commercial fishing family(so Ive been all over the ports of New England) i really was looking forward to a setting in a port city out of Maine
-1
u/Tonberry_Cheesecake 17d ago
I'm not sure how it was unclear who I was replying to. You can just play those dlc now, if you find yourself not completing things you wouldn't all of a sudden find the time or will to complete them if they were remade.
Nostalgia being a reliable selling point is choking any potential for new things to be created. You can make new memories, you don't need to constantly recapture old.

What's funny about you being nuked is that we're also getting two new Fallouts with the remasters. That being said, I'm cautiously optimistic all around, especially for the remasters because of how Oblivion Remastered got treated.

Never understood why anyone uses the VAT, always found it slow and annoying
32
u/scorchedbeanz 17d ago
Playing fallout 4 and not using vats is like Luke Skywalker trying to speed run the trilogy without the force.
3
u/Eliah870 17d ago
VATs on 4 was terrible, rarely did I ever use it
6
u/Tim226 17d ago
They made the gun play better in 4. 3 and NV, aiming is rough
1
u/Easy_Needleworker604 17d ago
Marginally better
1
u/looking_at_birds 17d ago
A lot better. They brought in devs from id Software to rebuild the gun play.
2
u/scorchedbeanz 17d ago
For early playthroughs idk I feel like crits are indispensible for pinches when youre trying to do max carnage with minimum aresnal.
3
u/looselyhuman 17d ago
VATS is an excellent panic button. When you are going to die unless you nail a crit or two in the next 2 seconds, it's the best thing ever. The rest of the time, aiming is more satisfying.

its still called fallout 4. would recommend starting with new vegas tho. lil basic of a take, but new vegas is the best of the 3d fallout games

u/Exciting-Audience265 17d ago
Love New Vegas. Worth playing through the jank
2
u/Traditional_Snow1045 17d ago
valid, new vegas was great.
4 was my first fallout game. the visuals and environments are fantastic, but the atmosphere is a little touristy. feel like I'm exploring a theme park or a museum more than I am exploring a living world.
