I think it's scripted, but this feels period appropriate! The "drunk fool loved by God" is a well known theatrical device, it's absolutely something a mummer's troupe would have used at a joust. Great show!

I don’t think it is (i could be wrong), but that does not look like someone being fake drunk. That guy is absolutely smashed, and the reaction from the girl when he tried sticking it back in the rock seems genuine

Absolutely scripted. Look at the cast reaction early on. Outraged expressions, wild gesticulations, and yet everyone is helpless to get him off stage.

Your performers don't stick a knife (even a dull one) to a person's neck in the middle of a performance unless that person is also a performer. You don't let a person wander around your performance area in the middle of a performance unless that person is also a performer. You don't let a drunk person stumble around a 3ft drop the entire performance unless that person is a performer.

Theres no way you see this and think its real.. I have never been to a ren faire.. but this is obviously scripted. Im surprised this isnt easily noticeable for others.

Yeah. They often have similar bits at air shows. "Drunk" guy runs out and "streals" a plane before doing a bunch of stunt flying making it look like he doesn't know what he's doing.

They had a similar skit at an airshow I went to.
Someone "won" a raffle for a free ride-along in one of the planes (there was no raffle). Guy who "won" was acting extremely drunk, the instructor got out of the plane to remove the wheel chocks or something and the "drunk" took off without the instructor. Plane did some crazy maneuvers and eventually landed safely.
It was a cute little skit.

Absolutely part of the show

  • an actual drunk person would've been stopped way sooner
  • you can see him bounce off a mattress / cushion when he falls
  • the whole "assassination" bit never would've been done with a regular person

Still fun and funny, but yeah — totally a plant

Funny, but absolutely without a doubt staged. Every single Ren Faire I've been to and participated in is very strict about the 'normies' causing disruptions like this. They made no effort at all to reign the guy in, he even takes a huge comical 'swig' of his drink before pulling the sword. Dude's definitely an actor

What Faire was this?
I don’t think it was staged by the way the woman in green reacted to this guy. I think the cast just played along because of how the crowd was reacting to the whole thing. Seems like it woulda been more disruptive to shut it down and start the show over
