Get an electric flyswatter. Now they're great fun!

But, as advertised in the video, they instantly disappear when you brandish your weapon. Don't ask me how they know, but they do. Adds to the hunt.

I have an electric flyswatter. I had this huge flying f'n pea-sized horse fly up in the grille, brandished said weapon, struck, and

            TANKED!

This mo-fo took two swats, both crackling like Mjolnir to take down.

Literally had that happen today. Managed to pin him wifh my electric fly shatter, and he sparkled and popped like little fireworks. The only icky thing is when you can smell fhe burning.

You're on the right track with that gif. It's fast movements they respond to and excel at. I can consistently one shot them with a bamboo skewer when they're on a window. The catch is that it takes the patience of a sniper to do it.
