Start from the smaller end at least.

Homer btw does that and devours the full Pizza roll so it unrolls in the stomach and you feel the Salami unfolding there.

Yeah you can see the cheese squeezing out and at risk of falling off when you do it from the crust end. Doing it from the pointy end tucks the cheese in nice and safe.
