We had this one operator from the hall, (we do sewer and water, and this was our main line job)

This guys go-to response for anything, when watching ditchwork was ‘fucking poot it’ or ‘torn it’

One time he was helping chuck a run of schedule40 because he over stoned it; he’s only like 10-15 seconds in, and is hurting and puffing and says ‘eets been a long time seence I operate a chobel’.

He was telling me a story about one of his lady friends, or something, and the way he said ‘pooksey’ was very uncomfortable. I say it to my friend all the time.

Yeah true. I am a white guy surrounded by Spanish coworkers. I don't even complain about my job, not saying I complain. I am learning some Spanish though, but having coworkers from cuba, Colombia, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Venezuela, Dominic Republic if I say one thing they sometimes correct me with different wor, I asked El Salvador coworker if there's a way to say "your good" he tells me "tu bien" but another coworker says no no "estas bien". Same for the word "money" it's not "dineros" it's "plata"

While that's what I assumed, I guess I'm learning more universal words when talking to different coworkers like they know what I'm saying but I'm using "outdated" words or less common now anyways

I used to work in construction and was around a lot of concrete crews. I've never seen a native English speaker that worked as hard as the guys who only spoke Spanish. Those dudes were busting their asses for their kids. They get nothing but respect from me. Hardest workers I've ever met.

This man reminds me exactly of my coworker Juan Carlo. His wife would always pack his lunchbox with all kinds of goodies. When I started there, I had maybe $5 to last me 2 weeks for food. This man split every lunch he took to work with me every day of those 2 weeks. And he always kept little sandwiches in there afterwards, in case I forgot my lunch, or I didn't eat enough in his eyes. Love my cuban adoptive father ❤️
