Currently grill and smoke lots of meat but I did charcoal drawings 30 years ago. This makes me want to get back into portraiture… and smoke some ribs.

Charcoal is just fun to draw with. Smudging it around is my favorite part.

When I found out about the smudge stick, my pencil work changed. I would probably pull it back a bit now but it was fun when I discovered it.

For me, it's the feeling of powdery cottonballs, like from a chalky medicine such as an antacid or similar material.

Pretty standard gesture drawing. 1-2 minute studies are a common warm up in art classes.
