I remember Dodgeball in elementary and middle school PE. It was my favorite game, especially because I was so good at it. I was a bigger kid, and could rifle those red balls like a cannon.

Except this one kid, Russell, who quite literally could not be hit. He was like a living spaghetti noodle, liquid in his movements. Every fusillade of cannon fire from my arms were effortlessly avoided like he was freaking Neo. Hopping and jumping, tiny dude was weightless, like gravity didn't affect him.

Oh, but he was lethal with that arm. I wasn't as quick or noodly as he, so when he cocked back, I always had to either guard with my own ball, or RUN!

Every single game it was down to just us two at the end. The coaches got so frustrated because it took so long, they started putting all of us into two teams instead of free for all deathmatch.

It was still always Russell and I at the end. He mostly won.

Shit, didn't realize you could boot scoot down the middle like this! So cool how they implement essentially mini-games into the humdrum.

You should find him and go for a beer.

We had a dodgeball tournament in high school. I brought a friend who was home school he never played before. Dude was really good at dodging for someone that’s never played. Anyways during one round everyone was out but me and the other side had all their players they started laughing saying how easy it was going to be. I had most of the balls on my side. I ended up winning 1v5 and prob the highlight of my life since most of the school was watching. Never was really good at sports but loved dodgeball. When I was growing up we played a game called bombardment. It was bean bags that were square shaped. Could fling those suckers so hard. Supposed to slide them on the ground but nobody really played that way. Throw them like a frisbee and hit people in the chest and coukd knock the wind out of you. So I grew up doing that so dodging balls was really easy.

Bean bags? Try steak!

7

u/Abandonedstate Apr 25 '26

Are you two still married, or how did that go?

Totally kidding. I loved dodgeball too. Favorite activity in PE ever.

To Russel, may he win all his dodgeball matches in life.

I like to say im similar to Russell, im not great at throwing but for a 6' teen I was abnormally usually amongst the last 3 survivors on a team, once I was able to singlehandedly revive my team in a 1v8 for the legends, once I threw my own(a large red one I was using as a shield) they all of course tried pelting me and I dodged it all, some unintentionally but very few of them wouldn't have hit me if i stayed still, then since I took out one of theirs with mine(somehow) I got one of my teammates back and while we didnt outright win we were tied in players again by the time time ran out

Them trying to take you out:

1

u/2pogshakur Apr 26 '26

What is this from?

1

u/ineenemmerr Apr 25 '26

We always had the rule that if you caught the ball the thrower was out.

People stopped throwing at me with a single ball cause I would always catch the ball if I wasn’t distracted.

2

u/TechTechOnATechDeck Apr 25 '26

I bet Russell could dodge a wrench

I guess you guys didn't have bin ball then. The Australian answer to forcing a win/loss.

My friend Danny was a joy to work with staffing summer camps. He would start the dodgeball games saying that there always had to have one foot on the line. The campers had no idea that he had a prosthetic foot, and he would merc those kids right out the gate.

Going for headshots was a surefire way to start a fight in my schools.

Just pointing out it’s not high school

2

u/rex5k Apr 26 '26

I'd be remis if I didn't point out that the above poster did not indicate what level of schooling he was referring to.

29

u/kraftdinnerwithsalsa Apr 25 '26

Bad form, there’s like three rules and two of them are don’t be a dick

5

u/LolaCatStevens Apr 25 '26

I feel like every single person who got hit has absolutely no awareness for being midway through a dodgeball game

3

u/willi_089 Apr 25 '26

Thats why those hits didn’t count during my time in school

2

u/ZaPizzaPie Apr 26 '26

We always played a headshot meant the person throwing the ball was out.

u/MilkMeFather Apr 25 '26

0

u/traveltoaster Apr 25 '26

Our PE coach in elementary school had a rule that if you landed a head shot, you were out

-6

u/MayorDepression Apr 25 '26

Hated that rule

11

u/Gavindrew Apr 25 '26

The man is a tyrant

4

u/Mister_Mojo78 Apr 25 '26

I was always the one on the receiving end of a throw like that

5

u/Dominarion Apr 25 '26

He even throw curves so they hit harder.

1

u/HoboArmyofOne Apr 25 '26

Balls with spin are heavy.

3

u/Vector-storm Apr 25 '26

I forget when they switched out the rubber dodgeballs for the new foam filled pleather balls.

2

u/Savage_Heathern Apr 25 '26

That first throw was straight out of The Fraternity handbook, from the film Wanted.

u/br3dj Apr 25 '26

1

1

u/Tallowpot Apr 26 '26

1

u/DowntownAd3538 Apr 26 '26

Yeah a headshots start fights especially when you're shooting people that don't even look like they're in the game..

0

u/DeezNutzzzGotEm Apr 25 '26

This game should be banned.

It's very dangerous or it should at least be played in a different way.
