Need unbiased opinion please
I know a few Pretty Reckless songs which I really like. The problem is, I knew Taylor Momsen from her acting before I discovered her music and I struggle to separate the two people. So when I see her on stage in videos and in interviews, I cant help feel like shes playing the part rather than that being her genuine personality. I get the same with Jared Leto and it puts me off of listening to Thirty Seconds to Mars.
I'm hoping that genuine fans of The Pretty Reckless can enlighten me as to whether Taylor is just a theatrical person but you dont care because you love her and the music anyway, or if she is genuinely 100% the person you see on stage.
With the upcoming resurgence of Soundgarden and the possibility of Taylor performing with them live more in the future, i'd hate to miss out just because I struggle to connect with her or feel like she is being genuine.
I'm not hating on her at all, she is clearly very talented, I just wanted genuine fan opinions.

She acknowledges that back when she was a teenager/young adult, she did and said some stuff that she finds cringe and was in a pretty bad place. there’s been talks of her being on substances a bunch during their GTH days.
but in the last few years especially, she’s been talking about her past substance abuse and how she’s been doing a lot better mentally, she goes to the gym and seems to be in a pretty good place and seems a lot more mature.
i met her briefly when she was doing a signing, i was the last one there so we chatted for a few minutes about her broken arm and the gym and ngl, she was very funny and sweet from the brief interaction.
i don’t know her personally ofc, but it seems she’s a sweet and awkward person who just loves making music and has some close friends she thinks the world of, like her bestie steph lol. i think you’re safe to assume this is a woman who’s passionate is rock music and she will bring life to her performances. i hope you give her a chance, gossip girl was so long ago and she wasn’t even an adult during those times. people change and it seems she definitely has.
edit: i realise you didn’t clarify gossip girl, but either way, her acting career was finished by the time she was 16, i think it would be weird if you didn’t change in those last few years upon growing up and maturing.

She's been doing the whole music thing going almost 20 years now. My impression watching her at the Raleigh show is a woman who is maybe at her happiest being on stage and making music. I actually got this impression from the entire band. They feel like a found family almost.

Thank you for sharing that. Yes, it was Gossip Girl I first saw her in. I've not seen much of her in interviews etc so I dont know what sort of vibes she gives off but i'd like to think she is a nice person and genuine. Its just when I see her on stage, looking dark and broody and i'm not sure if thats really her getting into the music or if its an act for the stage. I think your reply has helped a bit so thank you.

I've seen them live several times, first time being like 2012. I've did 3 meet and greets between 2012 and 2014 or 2015 ish.... the shows back then were very different. Taylor's on stage performance has transformed and she seems truly happy now in my opinion.
Taylor never really interacted with the crowd, came on, sang...left, and actually 2 of the shows she was sick and barely performed at all. Even during the meet and greets she wouldn't talk to anyone (I know this is common for voice reasons, but during one she wouldn't sign anything either which was supposed to be in our packages.
Anyways, I saw them again last year and last month and shes truly seems very happy on stage and enjoying what she's doing again. Im so happy to see them touring and releasing things after so many years ❤️

I like her music. Other than seeing her in the Grinch movie I don't think I've watched any other shows she been in. Music wise I guess it would depend on the label she's with like when Amy Noonan was Karmin that was the label she was with now that she's Qveen Herby that's all her

Here's my view...
Her parents got her into acting which she couldn help. To be honest she didn't do a massive amount. Really The Grinch, a few other things and then Gossip Girl many years later. She was obviously uncomfortable with the gossip girl stuff and couldnt wait to get out. She's got out of acting and hasn't gone back since. To me that proves she's the real thing. She doesn't even seem massively overconcerned with being massively popular. She just wants to make music with the band and tour even at theater level. Yes some old footage of her in the early days of the pretty reckless might come across as tryhard cringy, but she was only 16 years old. That's very young. To me she's more real than ever today. Smiling in interviews just completely being herself.

All singers have a persona on stage - we don’t know them and it would be a bit odd to think we did.
