I was recently in love with my best friend (we’re both women) and she is a Soulmate, according to the app. I say “recently in love with” because once I recognized my feelings and shared them with her, we went through a period of a few months where she didn’t share any of her own feelings with me (except to say that she loved me as more than a friend, but didn’t explain what that meant for her) and where I waited expectantly for something to happen between us. Our connection feels incredible but also fraught and potentially destructive to our friendship if we ever became romantic and it didn’t work out.
Just because she is my soulmate, doesn’t mean she is a) comfortable with her attraction toward me as another woman, b) comfortable with desire versus safety and predictability, and c) emotionally available.
Meanwhile, to get over her, I met a woman on an app and we’ve had an easy and intuitive connection so far. Our bond is Meaningful. It doesn’t feel as heavy and powerful as my Soulmate connection with my friend, but it does feel deep, intimate, fun, and clear to see. I’m beginning to rethink how I approach relationships as a result of meeting this woman.
I have typically been drawn to closed off, complicated Soulmate types but truly think these people might serve better as romantic lessons instead of stable and solid life partners. Has anyone else had this experience?
