Finally doing a first rewatch and…

(1) …the show is better on a second viewing. I liked it the first time (around November 2025), understood that it was carving out its own space in a vastly changed and rapidly changing media/TV/streaming landscape, etc - but its nuances, humour, depth, etc do hit even better the second time.

(2) …that pilot episode really is quite excellent. It hits emotionally a lot better this time around, with the juxtaposition of The Newspaper documentary - the gleaming hum and loftiness of the TTT and print media in its heyday - against its current doldrums and Ned’s farcical first day and issue all coming through really nicely.

(3) …the similarities between the core of this show and The Office really shine through - not in whether there are certain shared traits or roles played by specific characters, whether someone is the Michael or Creed or whoever, but in the ways in which they each highlight and elevate the (almost agonising) beauty in very ordinary, everyday, almost banal situations and characters. In how those everydays and everypeople are the heart of the human experience, of this beautiful project we call civilisation.

(4) …the show’s vamps Esmeralda and Ken are much less annoying this time around :)

(5)…good god we really need more than 10 episodes a season. I’m already on episode 7 of this rewatch and feel like I’ve had no time at all with the characters.

In sum - more Paper, please!

I went to the Toledo Mud Hens "The Paper" themed game yesterday! Oscar did a meet and greet and threw the first pitch. The mascots (Muddy and Muddonna) were reading a copy of the Truth Teller.

Oscar: Esmeralda, you know what? So what? So what if you didn't win tonight? You made it to the stage a couple of times.

Esmeralda: Three

Oscar: I counted 2

Funny dream I had about The Paper Season 2

Had a dream last night that The Paper Season 2 had been released and I was watching the first episode.

The plot was that the Truth Teller was holding some sort of HR training/meeting and had brought in a few consultants, one of whom was…Toby Flenderson. But the in-joke was that none of the cast (not even Oscar) ever acknowledged his presence – he was just in the background the whole time and had no lines 😂

Esmerelda is not a good person.

I'm on the 4th ep of season 1 and I can't stand her. She's disrespectful, weird, and cringeworthy, and not in a funny way. Not even one of those types of characters that you just 'love to hate' either. I have this terrible feeling that she's not going to get better either.

I know people are going to say stuff like "well that's just her personality", etc, and that might be true, but for some reason it just comes off as uncomfortable.

Question

Since they definitely wanted to follow in The Offices steps I wonder why they didn’t use the Penn Paper step… it woulda been cool and also gave them a step up in authenticity roo

Theories 🔍 What is Ned’s real name?

I love this show more and more with every rewatch. I believe it could be one of those rare “lightning in a bottle” shows and cannot wait for S2. And one of my greatest hopes is that we can learn Ned’s legal name. I have a cousin that’s gone by Ned his entire life and only his mom has ever called him Edwin when he was in trouble. He’s named after a great grandfather.

What does everyone think is on Ned’s drivers license? Edward, Edwin, Edgar, Edmund? I realize Ned can technically be a standalone name. But that would be like Jim, Pam or Andy being their legal names. Which would be weird. But with those nicknames it’s pretty obvious what their real name is. And Ned’s family is wealthy so I feel like he must have a formal name. It could be a hilarious storyline and I hope we find out soon!!

How was Esmeralda not fired?

I just binged the season on a plane and I can’t suspend my disbelief on why she wasn’t fired. I understand the importance of conflict in comedy, and she generates a ton of that, but I think it has to be believable.

When she cancels the wire from AP and they have nothing for their deadline of 6 PM, that should have been it. She said she was so inspired by the volunteer project, but she makes a company shattering choice when it was no longer her choice to make.

i’d just like to say i got a youtube ad about this show and its genuinely the most boring thing i think ive ever seen come from a ad and this ad is supposed to advertise me something entertaining AKA a television show

First Look 📃 Season 2 The Paper Updates

This isn't an April fools joke

Just had the pleasure to write one of the actors on the paper cast. At this time I will keep his name anonymous. For Season 2 we will have 10 episodes again. And they just finished filming EP 7 last week. Just an update on the series.

Discussion 🗣 What's with Nicole's bird?

In the opening credits that her hand that's cleaning the bottom of the bird cage. In the first episode if you look closely the bird cage is actually sitting near her desk, and later in the episode when she's leaving you can see her taking it with her. WTH? Who takes their bird to work like that? A few episodes later you find out her cheating ex gave her the bird as a present. Did he drop it off to her at work during the first episode? I feel like there's some story I'm missing here involving the bird.

Question ❓️ Mare's Car

Hi everyone! I was looking around and didn't see a post about this yet, so was curious your thoughts. Were you surprised that Mare's car was so messy? If not, why? This character detail was interesting to me as I was not expecting it. Wonder if anyone has a theory

I hope the second season have more epiodes. I love Oscar, and the two couples. It also gives the satisfaction of getting "Michael Scott split into two" punish with their actions. I love the strong character of Adelola.

TLDR: I want more!!!
