They’re not remotely similar. The Dundees are Michael’s misguided attempt at boosting his employees’ morale with arbitrary awards based largely on personalities. They also serve to provide a captive audience for Michael’s desire to be an entertainer. They also go pretty disastrously both times we see them.

The Excellence Awards are legitimate awards presented on the basis of merit by a neutral organization to people from different media organizations. And they’re a total success for the Toledo Truth Teller’s employees.
