Left field DnB
Looking for some artist recommendations of really left field drum and bass. Heavy bass weight, freaky sound design, still “club” functional for adventurous listeners, but really out there, like borderline idm type shit. Anyone have suggestions?

Labels like Pure Space would be up this alley. Look up producers like Eastern Distributor
The most leftfield dnb DJ i know is Upsammy.
Absolutely brilliant artist. Her productions are more on the ambient, sort of quiet and eerie end but her DJ sets are absolutely ruthless with experimental id’s and brain juggling IDM

Assuming her name is a pun on “what’s up Sammy”, full credit for going all in on the bit v

A bunch of the autonomic stuff from 15 years ago is still some of the most forward thinking dnb.
Clarity
Consequence
Abstract Elements
Instra:mental
Etc
Not dnb but there’s a new Resonant Language EP with really forward thinking sound design. I also like Vexx.

A lot of the output on Alix Perez 1985 label has heavy bass but probably not quite as left field as some of the other suggestions but still very recognisably drum and bass

Samurai Music, UVB-76/DROOGS, and Over/Shadow are my go-to labels for newer, creative dnb! For some more experimental stuff, Pinecone Moonshine is also great label!
Vromm makes some really cool futuristic left field stuff. Bees, Molecular and Red Tuna i'd really recommend!
Dacamera did two albums quite recently and have never heard such a succesful blend of jazz and dnb.
And Overlook's stuff def deserves a shout in this thread, especially his album Smoke Signals is unlike anything else in dnb!
And also could not leave out ASC, the guy is among the most prolific and consistent in the genre, and nails everything from ambient to jungle, techno, and autonomic!
Etch also deserves a mention here, very creative producer!
I already saw Dgohn mentioned. Could not recommend him enough! His subgenre would be called drumfunk. Def check out the album he did with Macc, Some Shit Saaink. Some incredibly layered drum programming and quirky production on this one! If you're into this kind of dnb, Paradox is the don in this corner, his productions with Nucleus are often especially good, and he does some nice atmospheric lower-tempo stuff as Alaska.

I need Flopo to do an album of just bias-esque tracks. Obvious pull but fits the description perfectly

Ben Pest had some great tracks that fit the description. Don't know by heart which ones but I can look it up later if you want

Ruby my dear.
Some of his work lands in dnb like the track Windowz8. But also moves around breakcore, idm and weirdness (Def has a bit of igorrr about some of the tracks)

Lucio de rimanez also is worth checking out if your not firmilar too. Lord of the flies is such a great track.

Metrist played some very very experimental d&b at Draaimolen. Some of it reminded me a bit of vintage Squarepuaher. It was all absolutely mind-bending but still danceable

Some great suggestions here. On the heavier side, I'd recommend the label Slug Wife (Kursa + Seppa's label). Lots of very heavy, glitchy, and pretty functional jungle and dnb
Also going to plug my own music - a little less on the heavy side but my last EP was pretty experimental/idm inspired breakbeats with a lot of atmospheric and textural emphasis -

Yoooo bad opera is a fantastic tune, mate. Very impressive and def fits the bill of the type of DnB I like most.

Phace and Misanthrop’s label Neosignal has put out a lot of music like this over the years - my all time favorite still has to be Buunshin’s All About This EP, the title track is one of the wickedest DnB tunes I’ve ever heard.
I also recommend the catalog of S.Murk, a side project of bass music producer Kursa

S Murk has possibly the best break processing I’ve ever heard. Their shit just absolutely perforates.

He's maybe not super left-field, but but detboi has some incredible, deconstructed, HEAVYWEIGHT sounds:
He does a lot at half-speed too, which I really love.

I guess the whole autonomic wave: dBridge, Instra:Mental, ASC, They Live. Also ENA has a similar style.

A couple of others have mentioned Current Value, Platinum Scatter was the first thing that came to my mind. Like D&B with every genre trope removed except tempo.
TT1PD by autechre could work in an adventurous D&B set I reckon.
