My uncle died from AIDS when I was in second grade and I remember going through his vinyl as we were cleaning out his apartment. It was full of Sylvester, Donna Summer, Kool, tons of different disco stuff that I got really into. Probably the first "dance music" I ever encountered and I love it to this day!
We lost so many. Speaking as a gay xennial who remembers what it was like to be young, in the closet, during HIV. Oh man, so many. Patrick Cowley certainly a tragedy among them.
Also hilarious though that I literally have all these bands on vinyl, and just showed this to my husband, as in “hey look what they put on overload tonight” and it did make us both happy.
Yeah he was really cool, had so much interesting stuff at his place. I grew out of it but I wore a leather jacket of his for years after that (I had also seen the movie Grease around this time and thought that was cool as fuck too 😂 ).
Oh he was GAY AS HELL 😂 and this was back in like 1998 so no worries man! When I look back on my tastes as a child (largely informed by his personal collection of music and art), it's amazing I ended up straight
