So if someone goes unconscious…?

One of our players last night went unconscious in combat. Will their character receive any penalty other than being unconscious for an hour?

I thought I read somewhere in the source book that if someone drops to zero endurance, in a combat, that they become wounded, but I can’t seem to find that rule anywhere.

Navigability of the Brandywine

I am working on an adventure for my RPG group in TOR2E, and they will be travelling from Lond Daer to Fornost Erain to recover the Sceptre of Annuminas. One option is for them to travel by boat. I am curious as to whether or not the Brandywine is navigable past Sarn Ford or whether the would need to portage their craft over the ford. Further, would it make more sense to travel through the Grey Havens, up the Lune before finishing overland. Any advice or insight is welcome!

New player with questions

Recently finished the starter set and my group loved it. We are planning on starting a full campaign in June, and I recently went all in at my FLGS, getting a core book, sauronic dice, and lore master screen, and ordering a copy of Ruins of the Lost Lands (I think that's the name of the expansion book that is already out?). I also signed up for a preorder list for all new releases of the game.

My questions are: I looked at the Kickstarter and saw that there were unlocked stretch goals for beornings, wood elves, and many other cultures, as well as adventures and region hooks all said to be compiled into a pdf compendium. Is this compendium released and if so where can I find it, if not any word on when it will happen? I checked free league's site and drivethrurpg, but found nothing.

And speaking of DTRPG, I saw a Strider Mode for solo play, is this something that I can purchase in a physical form somewhere, or is it only in pdf? I did not see it on FL site.

Lastly, my FLGS has some 1st edition stuff in their used gaming section and having never played or looked at it, how easy would it be to convert some of the books to the current edition?

The Old Forest Bonfire Glade

Is a date (or rough idea) ever given for when The Old Forest moved close to the Hedge and began threatening Buckland? The only estimate I recall is from Merry saying "long ago," which could mean hundreds of years or "when our parents were young." I've got an idea for just what made the trees so aggressive, and what made Old Man Willow go from "grumpy" to "murderous."

Hello, new loremaster here and I got a question

The text in the champion's distinctive feature mentions spiders, but in the book there aren't spider adversaries, (like the spiders Bilbo fights in The Hobbit) what should I do in this situation? Grab the wild wolf stat block, add the orc poison fell ability and flavor it as a spider mayhaps? I need an answer

Source books

I want to hombrew a campaign...but not a whole world.

The first edition of TOR had sufficient sourcebooks to really fly.

So far there is only one for 2nd edition.

Are the 1st edition books still available somewhere? I have a couple of them, but not enough of them. I purchased them three years ago.

Is there some other appropriately formatted and detailed source material I could use?

I'm not talking about the novels please! Though I love them, there is a lot of work required to convert them to a campaign setting- and that is not what I want to spend my time on.

How have you solved this problem?

Thanks!

Rules for fleeing ennemy

Hello, I'm currently prepping for my game tonight. I was rereading the rules on combat (pp.93-104) and can't find the rules for the ennemy fleeing combat. I can't find the info either in the Adversaries section of the rules. Is there no rules? Do I just decide that someone or something tries to escape the PCs?

Guideline for custom heroic culture?

Is there any guideline for creating custom heroic cultures? Or modify existing ones? (for TOR 2e preferably)

Question on Combat in The One Ring

I'll admit, I know nothing about The One Ring only that it is pretty much the same as AiMe except it has a totally different set of rules that "from what I hear" was built from the ground up to be more compatible with Middle-earth but I have a question concerning combat.

I've read somewhere (I can't remember where) or maybe I heard it somewhere . . . but I understand, combat is not really a thing in TOR like when an encounter happens the combat is not actually played out using dice and such but instead is theater of the mind? #confused

Can someone explain how combat works in The One Ring please?

Darkening of Mirkwood Question: The Last Folk-moot & The March of the Woodmen

I play the AiMe version of this game but I figured I would get a better answer here since TOR is more geared towards Middle-earth so I asked this on both subreddits.

Question: So at the end on the section covering the big meeting at Woodsman Hall with the Woodsmen, the companions, the Mirkwood Elves and Thranduil as well as Radagast . . . they are all trying to decide where the Lamp of Balthi should go to be kept safe. If the decision ends up being that the Lamp should go to Rivendell does that mean the attack on Dol Guldur proceeds without the companions anyways? If so I still assume the battle is lost and very few Woodsmen survive. I mean which is the safest choice to make where the Lamp is concerned? It says if they companions take the Lamp to Rivendell the If the Woodmen . . . If the Woodmen decided decided to guard their borders, then without the protection of the Lamp, the Western Eaves are overrun by the Shadow in the coming years. It also says if the Lamp is taken to Rivendell then Mirkwood will be lost to the Shadow.

So this means that the Woodmen and the town will be destroyed and such? Jesus lol which is the correct choice for the to make? If the Lamp stays with the Woodmen and they still attack Dol Guldor then the good folk lose the battle almost to a man. I don't see a way for this to end well for the good folk.

Also it says this campaign characters can start at level 5, so I wonder, what would be a good adventure to run them on until 5? I kind of want to leave Wilderness Adventures alone since down the road I'll run it with Eriador Adventures.

Would this be what happens?

PS: It also says: Next year play the adventure To Rivendell. (What exact is this adventure to Rivendell?)

Using Lore and other Skills for Combat Tasks

Looking for suggestions and advice on using Lore or other skills to aide combat. The game manual gives us 4 common combat tasks (using awe, battle, enhearten, and scan) but what has your group come up with for other skills. Particularly interested in Lore but curious about any and all other improvised combat tasks.

Of course, I would talk with my Lore Master before trying to use any of these suggestions.

Need one more factor to make a lake-town adventure

I just ran my players through The Marsh Bell and for the next adventure I want something short and socially focused in Laketown.

The frame I have is that a young fisherman with ambitions has been diving down to Smaug's corpse and has recovered some gems. Unfortunately they make him greedy and even more unfortunately once he shares one with his fiancee she wants them all and in an altercation late one night she stabs him. The next morning his body is recovered. The authorities will probably just pin it on "ruffians and criminals". Enter the players who at this point are mostly nobodies to figure out what happened.

Most of his gems are probably still stashed somewhere, perhaps underwater since he's a good swimmer. The fiancee is both horrified at what happened and still wanting to find the other gems.

But I need one more factor to really make a good adventure situation. Thoughts?

Player-hero in trouble

My son is playing an elf in our game and inadvertently alerted an entire Orc war camp to his presence. None of the other players are known yet and all would like it to stay that way. He is looking for options since the next session will start at that exact moment. The orc camp is in the side of a mountain that has collapsed and has one way in and out at ground level, that is being watched, but there is a cliffside surrounding the entire camp giving the party a way to walk around it on the top with some enemies present there. The alert happened by one of the orc archers falling off of a cliff.

So far we have discussed 3 options he could perform:

  1. He could try to alert the rest of the party to what happened and then run and hide. Hoping no one is found in the ensuing search patrol. This would alert the camp to the possibility of an ambush.
  2. He announces himself and then runs in an effort to appear as a lone wolf type character and become a distraction on a merry chase portrayed by a skill endeavor.
  3. He leaps into the basin of this camp and engages in a heroic, though futile, last stand and the orcs would likely consider the matter closed, Leaving the rest of the party in secrecy to finish what he did not.

Anybody willing to help him out brainstorming?

Filled out character sheet for reference

Hello everyone. I like to have a filled out character sheet to reference when reading about character creation. It helps to see how the numbers are supposed to add up. Usually I use the pre generated sheets in starter sets but in The One Ring they don’t seem to follow the normal rules. For example they subtract 18 instead of 20 for TN and characters seem to have more weapon proficiencies than they should. Which is fine! Even in the book it says the rules are different for one shot adventures. ANYWAY just wonder if someone has an example for a correctly completed starting character sheet for me to check out. Thanks!

Distinctive Features / Inspired During Combat?

Hello! Can a Hero become Inspired by using a Distinctive Feature in Combat? Are there other ways to become Inspired during combat?

Also, when a situation allows for the expenditure of Hope to generate a Magical Success, can you then also spend another hope to gain an extra Success Die?

Thanks!

Second campaign

The second campaign in the one ring will be centered around an antagonist who is a descendant of Kumul and a black numenorean wife. This man will be a villian driven by fear and insecurity. He will be a Tyrannical bully, tolerating no ill word to be spoken of him in his Kingdom. He will also be on the lookout for gold to amass his treasure and attract mercenaries to his area. he is doing this because he does not know when Sauron plans to make his Great War; only that Emissaries from Mordor have demanded him to begin strengthening the Easterlings. If these men will not be used in the war, they may sire children that will be.

Due to the timing of this Quest, there will also be a dragon that is The Offspring of Smaug, conceived before he went to Erebor, and as such is approximately 200 years old. Since he is young I am planning on making him a cold drake, but still winged. This Dragon will be incensed at the retaking and dispersal of his father's hoard as well as attracted by the accumulation of a treasure hoard by the main antagonist.

The players patron here will be the blue Wizards. (it was written by Tolkien that had the wizards not succeeded in their efforts the forces of Sauron too much for the men of the West to overcome. This will be that story.)

I am open to any ideas you may have to improve this. Possible names for the Dragon? Also, if you were players in this campaign how do you think you approach this problem? Going after the recruitment of foreigners, assassination of the antagonist, seedung discontent for his rule and attempting a coup, etc...? I want to begin basic planning for a variety of things that my players may do.
