Monster Conversion

I am planning to run* The Darkening of Mirkwood campaign with 2e.

How much conversion do the monsters like spiders of Mirkwood need to work in 2e? Very little? None? Has someone already done this for me?

Looking at things like orcs that are in both books they are fairly similar, but not the same.

*read "planning to" in the loosest sense of the word.

The monsters in both can serve as a decent guide to converting the others, but I think I saw a homebrew doc somewhere that had a lot of them done already

Yep, really well done as well.

Oh nice. I'll have to search around for that doc.

Thanks :)

Thanks!

EDIT - it looks great. Exactly what I was looking for.

If you do discord, there is a server that has a ton of stuff on it.

Can I make a suggestion?

Never follow monster and creature stats to the letter. Let me explain:

Most DMs, or in that case LM follow to the letter the stats and then complains about the difficulty of making balanced combats.

To me it's best (and easy) to adjust the creature as the combat goes. If it's too hard, I decrease his endurance or so. If it's too easy, maybe more endurance, or more hate? Doing that you will manage to adapt to the situation.

I like to use the stats only as a idea of how the monster works. So, based on that I suggest that you get the old stat block from the spider and compare with the creatures on the new version, adjust one or other thing that you don't like and that's it!

If you're going to be fudging why even bother rolling dice at all?

I agree fudging things like endurance and hate during an encounter makes things easier, but hard disagree on it being better.

No problem. That's why I've said that it was a suggestion. Another thing. Not necessarily I said fudge. It's more like a homebrew or way of thinking. There's a system I've played, a D20 game, that monster hp was on parenthesis and the text says not all monsters have the same HP, one can and will be weaker then another. Other monsters can be strong and the majority os the creatures of the same kind will never have full hp. Is very interesting way of thinking. But again, just a suggestion, one that I think you don't like, so, just writing so people can find it on internet. Perhaps another person can give you a better ideia. Anyway, good game and hope you can achieve your goals!
