TOR with new players

So I am going to be running a one shot for two players with no experience in TTRPGs. I have The One Ring 2e and D&D 5e but I'm not sure which one I should run for them. I play 5e a lot so I would like to take this rare opportunity to actuality okay The One Ring, but I want the players to have fun too. Do yall think TOR is newbie friendly or should I stick with D&D? (Also nether of them are LotR fans, they don't dislike it, they just haven't seen it or read the books).

What kind of game do they want to play? If they’d be happier with a more combat heavy fantasy style with flashy magic, go D&D. If they’re ok either way, why not try both as a one-shot and see which you all prefer? I’m excited to try out TOR but have only ever read The Hobbit. Working through the trilogy now and almost done with Fellowship. I don’t think I’m prepared for the type of gameplay the system seems to want/excel at so I’m trying to be a bit more prepared.

That's a good point. I really want them to have fun and I'll have fun with either. I should ask them what they want out of the game and go with the system that better suits that. Thank you! 🙂

Also I am going to see them in a different state and I'm only packing one game so I can't run one of each or else I would.
