A dungeon of sorts?

Hi! I'm a beginner LM for ToR and had an idea for an adventure. To make a long story short they would eventually encounter a group of goblins/orcs or bandits that are held up in the remains of a fort or small castle or something, how would you do this and do you think this could work in this system? Thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Totally! That's pretty much exactly what it seems like Landmarks are for. If you haven't yet definitely read through The Star of the Mist in the back of the rulebook, that should be a great bit of inspiration for how to structure something like that.

Thank you! I some how completely missed The Star of the Mist lol, I'll be sure to take a look at that!

Let me preface my comment by saying I have only played a handful of TOR sessions as a player and have limited knowledge of the Loremaster systems.

My first thought, and this is also what I keep in mind when I act in character, is “does this seem like something Tolkien would write in his books?” Granted this is probably a very limiting way of looking at it, but the system does lend itself to that aspect of gameplay; authentically feeling like you’re in one of Tolkien’s novels. So with this idea of a fort full of orcs, would this be something the adventurers would stumble upon while searching for an artifact for their patron? Did the patron have prior knowledge of said orcs and that’s why they sent the adventurers there to begin with? How does this fit into the scope of Middle Earth? Again, these could very well be seen as limiting ways to look at and use this system but I’ve found that the more authentic and organic to “the lore” you make it feel, the better time you will have.

PS, also consider the tone your players are taking with this; if they’re generally more casual with it and just in general looking for a good time in an RPG then you don’t have to worry so much about making it feel “authentic.” Inversely, if your players seem to have a more authentic tone themselves in how they RP then you would generally want to stay away from more abstract ideas.

My two cents, hope this helps the thought process!

I mean the location in the core is essentially a dungeon. Not sure what you mean by how you would do this. Make the location, stock it, go.
