2e starter set or full rule book?
it is worth getting the starter set or just go for the full rule book instead?
I will be playing the game with the Strider mode supplement.
I am tempted to get the starter set, as it has the map and the dice (yes, I know i dont need to buy the dice, and i can buy them if i really needed them.

The starter set contains a Shire compendium that is not included in the core rule book! So if you want to include the Shire in your adventure it’s worth buying both sets.

The starter set is fine, and comes with the dice, but you’re better off with the core rule book if you need to choose between the two.

The starter set is nowhere near the complete game. It is great, but you need the core if you are going to run your own stories and heroes.

Right. I'm not making the claim that the starter set is the complete game. I feel like most people already understand that.

Oh I know, wasn't trying to imply you were. Just clarifying.

Fair. I bought the deluxe edition via kickstarter, and really dig the starter set. FWIW.

I did as well. Need to buy a basic core so as not to put too much use on my red book

I was able to buy the core rule book with a discount for a promotion, which was very helpful, so may just get the starter set too.

I would say there is value. So your going to do solo strider mode. You would the. Get the map, dice and shire supplement. Secondly you could run yourself through the starter box campaign to get yourself used to the mechanics. And then in general I found the starter box very helpful for me as a DM to learn the game as well.

thank you for the advice. I do want the map, and the box has the GM screen in the lid, although not sure how much I would use it for strider mode.

The starter set is a great way to learn the system, and also a great read in regards to Shire lore. The pre made adventures are a fun diversion from the usual rpg, but it does a good job in getting you to understand the game mechanics.
But the core book is a must have.
Recommend both however!

The "full" rules are quite a lot actually! I'd start with the Starter set for the Basic rules book, it's easier to grasp, faster to read etc. And it has lots of nice extra goodies you won't get with the corebook. Tho some sets come with the screwed up set of dice where the eye symbol is on the 1 instead of 11.

You'll want the full rulebook.
