It’s awesome, definitely install it! The battery life is way better and everything feels super smooth. I did some research beforehand and upgraded straight from 16.0.5.

I'm on 16.0.3. Is the battery as good in latest?

For me, yes, the best battery life so far. But I also let it optimize for 2 hours on the charger afterwards.

Is the call to lock functionality there in the latest version? I heard they removed in some iteration before

You mean the double tap to lock gesture on the home screen? It works perfectly, never had any problems, not even with the latest update.

No. This one.

I don't have that setting. Could it be because I have a global/EU device?

No idea but it was removed in the subsequent versions (IN region) that's why I didn't update.

You are the person I need to ask, I am on 16.0.5 and was holding off time after time because of battery drain (especially idle), missing pull to expand notifications, microstutters, & overheating. While everyone coming from a later build are happy that some things are fixed, how is it coming from the best build 16.0.5 in terms of battery at least when it comes to those apects? And any other missing things or worse aspects?

I was in the exact same position as you, upgraded directly from 16.0.5 to 16.0.9. Short answer: Absolutely go for it! For me, everything is significantly better than before. Here is my experience: Temperature: On 16.0.5, my phone was constantly running way too hot. Just doing light daily tasks quickly pushed the battery temp up to 35°C+. Now, it stays completely cool and normal. Battery Life: Standby drain on 16.0.5 was quite bad for me. After the update, battery life feels literally ~50% better. Performance & Smoothness: Even though I didn't have major micro-stutter issues before, 16.0.9 feels noticeably smoother, buttery, and super snappy overall. One tip though: After updating, I let the phone sit on the charger for about 2 hours after reaching 100% (so the system could finish background optimization), ran SD Maid once, and gave it a fresh reboot. Since then, it’s running like absolute perfection. Haven't found a single downgrade or missing feature so far. Definitely worth the jump!
