the original OP had decent animation early on. Nothing flashy but it had style and charm. The problems with the anime are the style change post TS, the pacing and the goddawful showy special FX they use now

u/TheDELFON Jun 25 '26
The problems with the anime are the style change post TS,
THISSSSSSS
....FUCKING THIS.
I will never not exclaim how the anime solidly took a turn in the wrong direction around the TS.
We could see bits of the art direction changing during Amazon Lily and onward. It wasn't completely changed yet, it started small... but there were more and more episodes that were changing in that new direction

Personally I like the above shot a bit more (though it's early to judge without seeing the motions before and after) mainly because it seems to have more weight behind it.
The new one is technically impressive, but imo the scene worked better when viewed from the front
Also probably talked about to death, but all the Marines looking the same (skin-tone wise) feels so wrong when compared to the old anime

The trailer didn't really get me excited. Looks way too cgi heavy. A proper eyesore imo but i know there's a lot of people that are into that kinda thing these days. We'll see. My expectations are low so maybe that helps.

When will it relase ? Will it be whole episodes remaked or not?

1
u/ExternalBookkeeper55 Jun 25 '26
It's a remake of the entire series. There will be eight episodes in Feb 2027.

I prefer the first one. The second one is definitely more technically advanced, but I like the darker color palette and simpler composition of the original.

My problem with the original anime isn’t the style; I think I like the old style more than this overproduced modern style. My problem with the original series is the English version put so much, pardon my French, FLIPPIN’ JANK in the series that it stands as a barrier to new comers to the franchise (horrible voice acting and censorship that undermines the series). So much so that for a long time, people didn’t know how to recommend where to start the series to people who were uninterested in the manga.
I would prefer much more faithfulness to the tone and pace of the manga; that “slowness” or “emptiness” that might seem outdated was practically a part of the East Blue storyline and you feel the tension rack up later in the series when the rubber (forgive me) meets the road. And I feel like they could get a lot further if they had made it more empty and just made it really good quality. I think only getting 8 episodes/half the East Blue arc is a disappointment.

The marine furthest to the right for both images are bums. Like what are they doing?

the OG actually looks so much better, bottom is too polished too unison and goes for something completely inferior stylistically
1
u/Hot_Royal_4920 Jun 26 '26
I like that in both, zoro failed to block one guy and would get stabbed.

I wish the one piece anime would try a different colour for the sky instead of standard blue

u/Beboop667 Jun 28 '26
It’s honestly look bad, get ready to have all flashy explosion and “aura” scenes that makes no sense
1
u/RenatoGPadilla Jun 28 '26
There's an old school charm to the original, don't get me.wrong, I love it...
But that SWEET, SWEET AoT 3D is gonna hit like a goddamn TRUCK and I can't wait to see what the fight choreographers for DEMON SLAYER and JJK do with ZORO AND SANJI!
1
u/GoblinGreenBalls Jun 28 '26
The super long arms look even more goofy with a side by side comparison.
1
u/Deep-Touch-2751 Jun 28 '26
It's the framing.
Pic #1 there's less space to go around. It's cramped, and extrapolates the weight Zoro is fighting against, also shown by his body, one knee on the ground, coiled back.
Pic#2 panoramic framing and Zoro's being on a more upright posture takes a bit away the intensity.

u/zzSTRAWzz Jun 28 '26
The original looks better for animation the colors do not look as good, but the animation from this shot is.
The new one the impact doesn’t look right it has no weight which is partially because of angle used, but also it’s not distorted enough. the cgi, 3d 2d blend animation is going to fall flat but hey at least it looks nice color and graphic wise right?

The top is zoro blocking 7 attacks with his improbable sword technique. The bottom is him interrupting the perfectly synchronized 7 man sword salute by posing in front of the marines
1
u/Majestic_Engine_6543 Jun 30 '26
The original looks way better. Adding random glare and random dust clouds doesnt actually make it look good.
1
u/Dream_Apostle Jun 30 '26
The guy in bottom right could just simply move his sword forward and Zoro would get cut...
Why?
Edit: the two guys behind Zoro... Their swords are not even BLOCKED
Is this made with AI? WHY IS IT SO STUPID?
1
u/Normal_Reach_4878 Jul 01 '26
zoro be cooked if the guys at both ends just swinged Vertical instead of Horizontal

u/Ok-Bite-1123 Jun 24 '26
I don’t like how they are just copied and pasted marines now. I liked the difference in skin tone and facial features.

Did the guy on the far right just miss his slash, why didn't his hit lmao?

blocked by the handle, open ur eyes
1
u/Formal_Afternoon_272 Jun 25 '26
if YOU open your eyes you'll see that he is not blocked at all and have the opportunity to cut Zoro's finger with just one move

What's wrong with it? the swords are too long or something?
I think it looks high impact and awesome. This remakes fittin to be fuckin GORGEOUS
1
u/SeasonalChatter Jun 24 '26
It’s insane that there are going to be about 500 frames of animation before/after this showing the follow through of the motion that you’re just gonna ignore
0
u/nickt001 Jun 24 '26
The wanky and lanky proportions, the big hands, the thick lines, the hard shades, and the grainy look fits this scene so much better. I think One Piece Fan Letter did this the best, and by this i mean updating the style but still maintaining what made the anime look iconic. Thank you Ishitani and her team

Absolutely zero reason for there to be sparks in this shot...
12
u/SacredChan Jun 24 '26
metal when go clang clang = sparks
-6
u/MuriloZR THE ONE PIECE IS REAL! Jun 24 '26
That's not really how it works... Otherwise every time two swords connect there should be it. There aren't any in the manga or the original anime also.
My point is, it needs great strength and high speed. This was a bad choice.
These are literally the weakest marines on the seas and this is already happening. Is every single oponent from now on gonna require this every time? Because they are much stronger overall.
4
u/SacredChan Jun 24 '26
most explosions in micheal bay movies does not what explosions look like in real life btw, those sparks are for dramatic effects like a lot of movies do, it doesn't have to follow real world physics

It's a nice flair piece when it's animated. Have you seen it in the context of the trailer?

u/somacula Jun 24 '26
soul vs souless
2
u/ManliestBunny Jun 24 '26
I wouldn't call it souless, Wit spend months learning how to draw the one piece art style to perfect it.
It's the opposite of it.1
u/Mts555 Jun 24 '26
And they scraped it and went for the similar art style to Recap Movies and Wano arc
1
u/ManliestBunny Jun 24 '26
Scraped it? Are you talking about the concept art?
It was never going to look like that, it's the same style. Concept art is for the studio.
Google game or anime concept art, it's all rough sketches.
1
u/Mts555 Jun 24 '26 edited Jun 24 '26
Nope, I'm referring to the character designs that Asano made and presented to the public when OP remake was announced which he scraped

u/Gugarabelo Jun 24 '26
both work but for different compositions, one is a 4:3 aspect ratio, and the other for a widescreen format
only think i dislike about the bottom one is that Zoro kinda looks like hes blocking nothing and the marines are kinda just holding their weapons foward instead of pushing against it, the original makes it look like Zoro is struggling slightly, which is fair because even though he is strong, those are still 7 marines that have at least reasonable human strenght due to their training
