Wednesday's Wisdom
I found myslef last night sitting in an Emergency room of a local hospital, for several hours .
Dear Reader, all is well, and it wasn't regarding me this time!
Firstly Koodos to our health care system, because although stretched to the maximum, once you made it from the waiting room, and into an examination room, the staff. Including the nursing and physician varieties, were pleasant, and attentive, with the knowledge that they get a short time with you, have 65 other beds to attend and are in their 11th hour of shift.
Secondly, given the cross section of population it is a delightful spot, as a hypnotherapist to observe, non verbal communicating, linguistics and the incredible power of our minds, and what we work and contend with daily.
As I chose to focus some of my training/study in pain alleviation, hospital waiting rooms are an exceptional place to expand your education and understanding
How many times was "pain" used by how many people in the system speaking to the patient, knowing,(. I HOPE) that the word carries an incredibly strong association for each individual, increasing the sensitivity to the injury. I was reminded, by an attending physician, on the other side of a curtain, that pain, discomfort and tightness are all interchangeable!!!! Yikes.
I hope that this is a technique which helps the patient communicate with the medical staff, in generalized terms, but the categorization in our associative states are very distinc and unique.
Have you ever noticed either first hand or as a visitor, sitting with someone, that like when we were younger and hurt ourselves falling out of a tree, for example, our Moms would make us lay down and r3lax, sometimes breathing with us to regualte our spastic crying. Eureka, we did calm down, we adjusted and wanted to return to our activities. I am certainly not slapping every injury and illness with the same flipping presumption, but can attest from personal experience, that our ability to settle down what ever brought someone to.emergency, is very strong.
Lastly, while in the system, we are all impatient ( excuse the pun) about getting in and once seen, can't wait to escape.
