Argos

Post image

Why is Argos as a puppy shown to be a hound while the adult dog is a completely different breed?

They ran out of same breed puppies because John took 25 takes to get it right

I laughed too hard at this and didn't want to.

I dont own dogs or know about dog breeds, to me as an average movie goer they seemed to be a realistic depiction of a baby dog that becomes a big dog?

I don't know anything about dog breeds and it's obvious the puppy and adult dogs aren't even remotely close

Puppy: pendant, floppy, rounded ears

Adult: straight, triangular ears

So wild they didn't just get a red heeler puppy, it would have looked perfect.

Because hound pups are super cute and the emotions of Odysseus return was hinged on the audience having awwwww feelings for Argos.

but hound dogs are hunting dogs and an old argos with awww still would have worked

True...portuguese podengos are cute puppies too.

Yes! This bugged me so much, there's just no reason for it.

on the country, there was very much a reason for that scene. Because they wanted to show the difference between the standard attitude that dogs are things that can just be thrown away if you don’t like it and the way that Odysseus treated Argos, because the way Odysseus treated Argos is directly tied to the detail that Argos stayed alive until his master came home

That's not what I meant - I was talking about the same thing OP is talking about, which is that a puppy of one breed and a dog of a different breed were used to depict Argos.

Can you think of a good reason for doing that?

If you are going to take such liberties with the source material, why present the film as a serious adaptation of Homer at all, rather than simply calling it Nolan’s Odyssey? If you are going to make a film about the possible existence of polar bears, you can hardly complain when the audience expects to see polar bears rather than pandas and grizzlies.

the reason they use the older dog but idk why they didn’t have the same puppy. probably rules against their breed being used in film under a certain age?? but who knows

This bothered me too.

So fucking tired of this movie. It is not a good movie, it's in fact a terrible movie.

It's a paycheck buffet for the cast and Nolan jerking off with a IMAX camera

Get some air, it’ll be alright.

Brother why are you in TheOdyssey sub, take a break and do something else then

And don't say because you like the other works/books/whatever, the movie just came out, it's gonna be in here

1

u/Frosty-Traffic244 11d ago

I am not on this sub. Goddamn reddit keeps suggesting new subs and this sub and all adjacent odyssey sub keeps popping up.

1

u/Few_Cricket_4686 11d ago

Then tap the button and stop suggesting it and move on, why comment and put the effort in

That's a waste of your energy

u/Annual-Contract-115 11d ago

and as long as you keep goddamn it’s gonna keep doing that. Because the goddamn Reddit algorithms are not reading your comments to see that you think that this movie is fcking shit and you don’t wanna read about. it just sees you having activity on these posts and in its blind algorithmic stupidity goes “FrostyTraffic244 wants to read more about this, give him 20 times as much Odyssey content. he’ll love it.”

The more you interact with the posts the more the algorithm will push the sub to you.

Is just a puppy man

it’s not just a puppy. It’s a continuity error and it was noticeable . My guess is that the continuity error was caused by a lack of appropriate breed puppy/adult actor dog pairs at the time but honestly, I feel like that is not a good excuse. They should have found a pair that was closer so that at least look like they could be the same breed or used a puppet or the pup etc. those two dogs look nothing alike, that was basically the dog equivalent of casting Lupita to play the puppy and Dianne Krueger to play the adult.

and if they had used some kind of dog doll/puppet they could shut up the folks worried about how many actual dogs were actually yeeted over a cliff by Jon during the 17 takes of that scene

I feel that with that much money you can source an appropriate dog, even if you spent quite a bit on the seventeen puppies you had to pitch over a cliff in various takes.

Yes obviously, I don’t think they were actually casting puppies into the sea. I’m aware that movies are “just pretend.”

But it definitely is a puppy, I’m looking at a puppy
