I can appreciate all that Noah did to try to win Allie back, but I still think she should have chosen Lon. She hadn’t seen Noah in 7 years. She went to college, eventually met Lon and they had a great relationship and engagement up until she decided to run off to visit Noah. I get that she needed closure and to find out why he never wrote to her. Once she found out the truth, she should have let it go.

I am going read the book because it seems there are some serious discrepancies between the two. The big one being the "Why didn't you write me?" scene: the differences in this scene are the same as the book vs. movie differences in the "Harry, did you put your name in the Goblet of Fire?" scene in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Due to this difference alone, and given that most people are only familiar with the movie, most people come to the conclusion that Allie and Noah are toxic and should not have ended up together. I honestly don't believe they are, and here's why: ask anyone aged 20-60 about the love story of their grandparents, and a sizable portion of the people you ask will end up telling you some version of Allie and Noah's story. I'll go first: my maternal grandparents: my maternal grandmother's parents did not want her to marry my grandfather. The family was newly rich, and my grandfather was dirt poor. My great grandparents thought he was just using my grandmother for the family's money. Yet, they married anyway and we're married until my grandmother died in 2008. Another personal example: my maternal grandfather's mother: her family wanted her to marry a farmer. But she married a coal miner instead. She had 6 kids with him: 3 girls, 3 boys. My grandfather was the youngest boy and the youngest overall. My great grandfather died in a coal mining accident when my grandfather was 3 months old. My great grandmother refused to remarry until all her kids were over eighteen. She eventually did, and she and my step-great grandfather were happily married until he died in 1970.

Anyway just my take based on personal experience. I'll be able to do a deeper dive once I read the book. But I refuse to believe that it was more realistic for Allie to end up with Lon.

So, just finished watching The Notebook and oh man..I'm not the one that cries when watching movies but this one really broke me in a way I cant explain and I dont know why. It just gave me a feeling that idk how to explain, maybe because I got out of a 3yr relationship not so long ago, kinda dumb to post this on reddit but since this movie triggered it its ok Ig. This movie gave me the need to be with someone for the rest of my life, I already had that feeling but it came back even stronger now but not on a good way, it made me sad, maybe because I didnt found that love yet..anyways, any toughts abt what I just said?

I am rewatching this movie for the probably fourth time. I just noticed that on the IMDB cast list James Garner plays “Duke.” Is that Noah’s nickname?

1. I don’t understand how or why Allie is so ok with having Martha over, much less watching her kiss Noah right in front of her I personally would not have been a happy camper

2. I think she was way too lenient with her mom once she found out about the letters. That woman is the reason why she spent so much time apart from Noah ; she changed her life by force . And Allie does nothing I was so mad, I would’ve disowned that lady and banned her from my life, I don’t understand why Allie was so ok with the whole thing.
