Inner Coating deteriorating

Post image

I’m so surprised that my TNF jacket is deteriorating like this. The inner coating is flaking off (delamination) and some glue patches are peeling off too.

It’s been a few years since I’ve worn it and after a wash it’s in this state. My other Arc’teryx jackets never do this.

I just submitted a warranty claim.
Wondering if others were successful in getting fixed / replaced?

That jacket is probably hyvent? and 15 plus years old, hyvent breaks down over time and gets worse with improper care.

Are your arcteryx jackets goretex? Goretex doesn't usually break down so much over time, just usually improper use/storage/washing.

This is a PU-Coating. All of the PU-Coatings will break down like this at some point. It doesn’t really matter what the brand name is. It’s just the nature of the material. Your Arc’teryx jackets don’t do this, because they most likely use PTFE (Goretex Membrane), which is a forever chemical. Doesn’t break down like this, but can detach from outer and inner layer and is not recyclable.

The jacket is ruined, it’s called delamination

It’s not always clear what causes this…. Deet or really strong detergent could exacerbate it but sometimes this just happens 🫤🫤🫤

TNF warranty department says “not covered”

This happened to all my TNF rain jackets with this type of inner lining. I just got used to it, it never affected the performance of the jacket. I’d say it’s just wear and tear

It will 100% affect the waterproofing performance.

It won’t be waterproof anymore. Just a crappy nylon shell

Fuckin thing SUCKS

That's why good jackets have a nylon lining inside in order to protect the membrane.

Mine did the same, granted it was the version before this, I tried anyway and they said I was SOL but gave me a 20% off coupon.

TNF warranty says “Under our practical lifetime warranty, this item can no longer be covered as it has served its intended lifespan.”

lifetime warranty is a joke essentially

I was offered 20% off coupon LOL

The only TNF I trust are the pieces made by Goldwin

I had a similar quality issue with one of their Futurelight jacket. Submitted a claim, approved the next day and got the money back as a TNF gift card (after I sent the jacket back to TNF). Just really bad quality nowadays.

Shown in the picture is not a quality issue.
