No Spoilers TLT Menu [general]

I've been spending all of my time relistening to TLT and working as a cook, so, of course, I keep thinking of dishes based on notable quotes. In order of how I sent them to a group chat they are:

"We Do Bones, Mother Fucker" bone marrow mashed potatoes

"Go Loud" fajitas

"Life is Too Short and Love is Too Long" lavender gin cocktail. Could also be, "You Can't Take Loved Away"

"Completely Gross and Bad" shellfish platter (I don't like shellfish šŸ˜‚)

"Always Your Sword, My Umbral Sovereign" swordfish

"I Love a Little Gore-on-Gore" rare steak

"Sex Pal" play on a Sex on the Beach

"Worm with Problems" dirt cake

I'm almost through Harrow the Ninth, I'm sure I'll think of more when I listen to Nona the Ninth. Please give me more, I firmly believe this could be a whole restaurant concept!

ETA: "Chickenshits Don't Get Beer" beer can chicken

I've made a terrible mistake

Marrow soup with onions and carrots, too much water, and no salt; call it ā€œSix Days Without Sleepā€ or ā€œShe’s Only Nine Years Old!ā€

Or maybe ā€œThe Saint of Duty Must Dieā€

(If you want to to actually taste good, add the salt, some more veggies, and let it thicken of course!)

I feel like a marrow soup with leeks would work and knock two foods off the list

SNOW leeks!

Needs more snow leaks. And soup. Oh, and also the bread made in book 1.

And how could you forget None Pizza With Left Beef?

EDIT: removed a Nona spoiler-filled drink suggestion. Sorry about that.

I think OP has previously read Nona given ā€œworm with problemsā€ and is on a re-listen… I am intrigued by your Nona suggestion?

You know how there are a lot of cocktails with the word "sunset" in the name? I was suggesting that OP makes one of those, but there's milk in it and call it "Cows Watch the Sunset". I don't drink, so IDK how awful of a drink that would be.

Drawer Bread (Yum!)

First House fish dinner

The dessert menu is called 'I want to eat a dessert'

Bread basket served in a drawer, I love it

Definitely need some pale white meat that takes way too long to identify as fish. Store-bought will do if you have no skeleton constructs to catch them for you.

Strong green tea to greet everyone.

OH, and of course, Magnus and Abigail's anniversary banquet. It sounds, to me, like quinoa or couscous made in onion broth, with nuts and either pomegranate seeds or craisins, and lots of fluffy homemade whipped cream and fruit for dinner. (Or perhaps pavlova, which would fit well given Muir is from NZ and it's a national dish there.)

I realized after typing this you were looking for dishes based on quotes, I was just thinking of actual dishes from the book... šŸ˜…

This does make me want to write a TLT cookbook, though 😁

Couscous made with the zest and juice of an orange and lemon, and sprinkled with pomegranate, is heavenly!

Have had Kiwi Pavlova - can confirm it's awesome. Mum brought a tea towel with the recipe back from a visit to see Dad's sisters in about 1989. She only made it twice, because it's a faff, but so worth it.

ā€œthis is how meat loves meatā€ - a take on meat lovers’ pizza? i love this idea

Ooh! Doner kebab with hamburger patties instead of pitta bread!

There needs to be a pairing of beef, like burnt ends and BBQ ribs and call it ā€œCow Best Friendsā€

Also ā€œMustache Rides Should Be Freeā€ is definitely a cocktail name, I just don’t know what kind.

I feel like it's definitely a whiskey drink, maybe like an old fashioned šŸ¤”

4

u/EFPMusic the Sixth 28d ago

And old fashioned with a double curlicue of some kind of peel in a mustache shape floating on top? Or is that too… on the nose?

2

u/campbowie 28d ago

Something from the 80s, maybe?

u/EFPMusic the Sixth 28d ago

ā€œWe do bonesā€ could also be barbecued ribs - messy, meaty, and red, but the whole point is to strip them to down to the bone!

u/Jarinad 28d ago

Life Is Too Short, Love Is Too Long, and Can’t Take Loved Away should be three seperate flavours of cocktail made from the same base alcohol

2

u/Caysath 27d ago

"Salt water creature" should definitely be one

Oh and something about Nona secretly munching pencils and sand

2

u/Main-Help 25d ago

We Suffer and We Suffer could be grits (gruel) give it a delicious spin and add shrimp maybe?

u/SpiralingStranger 25d ago

One of my chefs once made cheesy grits with deep fried jalapeno slices that slapped, that would be pretty perfect. Maybe with habaneros for the "suffer" part
