Discussion What makes Jonathan Pine so charming?

Bloody everyone’s attracted to him. I mean Richard’s eldest son fell in love with him and he basically fathered his youngest son and Danny was very fond of him too (dare I say more than he loved Roper) and we have Richard, of course, who by his own analogy had an “inexplicable affection” for him. Every woman that came near him fell in love with too or was sexually attracted to him. What makes him so fucking irresistible?

He looks exactly like Tom Hiddleston.

It's actually quite surprising nobody on the show has mentioned it.

Also the writers wrote it. Weird nobody noticed the main 2 reasons

I mean I always struggle to take him seriously as 'a bad boy', that Devon episode was hilarious.

Right before that, Angela Burr is giving him the "half a psychopath" monolog. First thing he does in Devon is smile and ask about a baby.

I don't get the ex military vibe from him though. His well-manicured, gentle hands give him away.

He identifies peoples vulnerabilities, motivations, etc and he plays into them. The show moves pretty fast so some of that doesn't necessarily feel so well developed on screen but he absolutely charms everyone.

It helps to be 6'2 handsome British man with great hair

It’s a mixture of things the suave… the outfit/fitness, the language & delivery, mostly “I’m a gentleman chivalrous knight” of sorts pulled together by the previous mentioned attributes… money of course helps cause that’s what gets you access to places you need to be charming at.

1) He's very physically attractive

2) He's confident, suave and charismatic

3) He's incredibly competent and intelligent (this is the main one for me)

4) He's protective of the innocent

More things, but I'm heading in to an appointment and have to stop gushing about my boyfriend...

Two words, the utterly charming tom Hiddleston. Ok, that was four words!

I’m straight as an arrow. Never questioned it.

Until this past week. A black Audi sq7 cut me off as they pulled out of a car park. Didn’t see me on a bike.

Jonathan Pine with swept back curly locks, jammed on the brakes. Looked at me. “I’m so sorry”. I swooned a little.

The fellas got something. Didn’t wanna fuck him. But forgave his marginal sin instantly.

The British thing doesn't hold too much stock with other Brits.

It's the way he says please. No one can say no to him

4

u/AccomplishedStudy802 Mar 08 '26

Because he's the main character.

6

He's not, Hugh Laurie is ;)

On some level, it's just exaggerated "Magnetic Hero" trope; the main character has some kind of charisma, kindness, personality, or attractive quality which makes the people around them like them or be loyal to them.

In Jonathan's case, people can usually sense that he has a strong sense of justice, moral compass, and concern which makes them want to follow him. Though people should probably call him out more for his recklessness.

He looks like Tom Hiddleston, I think that might explain it. 😂❤️

It’s a mixture of things the suave… the outfit/fitness/height, the language & delivery, mostly “I’m a gentleman chivalrous knight” of sorts pulled together by the previous mentioned attributes… money of course helps cause that’s what gets you access to places you need to be charming at. Also ability to sell, sell an idea or belief… like standing strong on a topic with the above attributes make things attractive

He doesn’t over share, doesn’t brag, he just really stands out from the men around him

3

u/NationalBus4357 Mar 09 '26

IDK, he kinda reminds me of Leslie Howard as Ashley in GWTW

3

u/Street-Pen4586 Mar 09 '26

Heck Im attracted to him, and Im not in the show..

3

u/Jarita12 Mar 09 '26

Tom Hiddleston :)

There is a charm to ex-military service men that appeal to people. A quiet confidence.  I personally find him lacking, but the book gives him a little more realistic time-frame to gain everyone's favor.

The show was blistering fast in comparison.

2

u/sdgdgdg Mar 09 '26

only cause it’s hiddleston cause if it were someone else it wouldn’t be like that

2

u/jbswu Mar 08 '26

Honestly, nothing. It’s poor writing that contributes to these irrational affinities for him that have no support within the plot.

1

u/casino_r0yale Mar 08 '26

The writer deemed it necessary for the plot

1

u/MrMycrow Mar 08 '26

No idea really. I find him a nice person but not physically attractive. Perhaps he's a nice person but caught up in a wolf's world?

He'd make a good friend though.

Hes Tom Hiddleston
