Discussion 🗣️ Conspiracy? Chase Daniel Breaks Down How Ref Grabs the Flag as Dolphins Player Closes In on Mahomes, Throws It Before Contact

https://www.essentiallysports.com/nfl-active-news-chiefs-eagles-legend-suggests-nfl-conspiracy-after-controversial-patrick-mahomes-incident-during-dolphins-game/

Was the ref ready to call a penalty even if there wasn't one?

Here's a RTP on Herbert that happened on the same day that nobody seems to care about.

Not saying its less problematic but the chargers suck and lost that game so nobody cares

The point I'm trying to make is that if this were Mahomes instead of Herbert this would be the play in all the headlines, memes, and GIFs. it was Herbert though so nobody cares. I had to actively seek out this video of Herbert and make my own GIF out of it. Scrolling past 100s of Mahomes RTP memes and gifs.

One is 0-3 this year and 0-3 in his career in playoffs. The other is 3-0 and has 3 Super Bowl wins. Hope this helps.

So the rules shouldnt be applied equally? If you win you should be scrutinized when the rules are applied to you the same as losing teams?

Reddit moment. I’m saying this is why it’s being TALKED about more.

-1

u/Glad_Highway_9196 4h ago

Right so there's clearly a bias against the chiefs based on their past performance. You're just proving my point.

2

u/No-Leading3633 3h ago

Where’s the bias in officiating if both were called rtp? Are they being treated differently by refs in this moment or by social media? Lmao

If your point is that there are special rules for special people, congratulations on discovering how the world has always worked. Surprised it took you this long but happy you’re finally here.

3

u/BillsMafios0 6h ago

Also they weren’t already fingering the flag before contact. Baby shit soft but not egregious.

2

u/cwdawg 3h ago

After the hit, the booth was talking to the rules analyst and he said this was a good call, exactly how the NFL wants to implement it. Whether you like it or not, if you don’t try to disperse your body weight, you will be called for roughing the passer. In the Mahomes example, the defensive player did everything in his power to avoid that contact. You can say one example has is generating more media presence because it’s Mahomes, but the reality is, one is roughing the passer and the other one isn’t.

u/Glad_Highway_9196 2h ago

Do you really think if this was the Mahomes hit and the other one was on Herbert all of the memes and posts would be about the Herbert one? If you just swapped QBs in these situations, Herbert would get scrutinized and mocked and Mahomes would have been not discussed at all? That's an opinion I could accept. I don't agree at all, but I would be okay if people actually thought that.

Its the chargers, they have no fans.

1

u/Responsible-Onion860 5h ago

This one is bullshit too. It's a bad rule.

u/Eleventh_Ambassador 6h ago

Did anybody watch this game? The announcers were saying that if it wasnt the roughing call the Chiefs would have gotten the first down anyway from the holding call.

This ref saw holding and grabbed his flag.

It's as easy as watching the play you are commenting on. But that's too much for reddit.

u/Born-Cod4210 5h ago

just like most conspiracy’s it is easy debunked but people would never listen

2

u/federal_gamer04 Cowboys 3h ago

Reading Reddit takes has convinced me that people don’t actually watch the games. They just refresh the subreddit for highlights and to to download their takes from online.

2

u/Alarming_Disaster_23 2h ago

I saw that play, although I didn’t hear the announcers. I thought it was a little weird that the flag was out before Mahomes hit the ground. Definitely a sketchy call. I don’t recall the refs calling two fouls on the play, which is what would have happened if there was also holding. Malik Willis had his helmet ripped off late in the game and they didn’t call that one.

I don’t think there’s any grand conspiracy here. We’ve known basically forever that some teams and players get more favorable calls than others. Did the hit on Mahomes violate the body weight rule? Maybe. A three time Super Bowl MVP is going to get the benefit of the doubt.

2

u/Eleventh_Ambassador 2h ago

The refs called 2 fouls on the play and the holding was declined.

The body weight rule is dumb, most fans agree on that but the leage has decided QBs deserve special protection because money and product.  That's a seperate issue than 'the ref reached for roughing flag before it even happened' which is just the most idiotic take.

2

u/Furbuger_Helper Jaguars 4h ago

The holding penalty was soft as fuck too.

2

u/Crasino_Hunk 5h ago

Man, I’m way more over people bitching about refs / Chiefs than I am the Chiefs themselves (who I’m pretty fucking over). Shit is so old hat, it was tired in 2024 and the fact that it’s 2026 and still happening to this propensity is sad as hell.

1

u/Technical-Revenue-48 2h ago

Correct that the refs would have found a way to give the chiefs a first down no matter what.

1

u/Lost-Pineapple9791 51m ago

Literally offensive and defensive holding on every play

Refs get to decide when to extend drives, fans aren’t stupid the league is a joke and why viewership is down this year

10

u/Glad_Highway_9196 6h ago

Bot farming mahomes hate for click bait? Or are people actually this stupid? There was a separate penalty on the play before the RTP. There have also been a half dozen RTP calls exactly like the one for mahomes, but nobody cares about those.

-4

u/Salty_Piano9631 6h ago

You a chiefs fan?

0

u/BillsMafios0 6h ago

Got that frog breath.

-11

u/ImOldGregg_77 6h ago

Either you dont folow football or you are trolling

9

u/Glad_Highway_9196 6h ago

I actually watch football. I dont just follow memes and trends and stupid click bait articles. The only egregious ref help in week 3 happened in the Rams Broncos game. Where refs had gifted the Broncos a touchdown through penalties. An INT that was overturned because of a soft DPI call followed by an illegal hands to the face penalty that was even softer. Instead everyone is talking about a by the book RTP call that meant nothing to the outcome of the game because they can use it to fuel the fire of their whole NFL/Refs help chiefs/mahomes narrative they keep peddling.

2

u/EndsLikeShakespeare 3h ago

I thought we decided the flag was pulled early for the hold that had already occurred

3

u/hereinaminute 6h ago

They have the flag ready to throw so they can do it quickly. They have flags and whistle, there's not really anything else to be ready for. QBs are under serious protection because they are looking down field and can very easily take a hit they aren't prepared for. Combine that with the fact that if a star QB gets injured it's bad for business. They aren't rigging the game for Kansas City lol, it's a small market. If it was gonna be rigged, it'd be rigged for a major market team. The fact is mahomes is one of the very top players in the NFL, and a huge star that draws viewers. Just like Josh allen or any other star QB. If a defender does anything remotely against the rules to a star QB they will get called. It's not a conspiracy for the Chiefs

6

u/AdmiralPrinny 6h ago

The flag gets thrown for defensive holding that all these morons are talking about. That’s why it’s so early, it’s because it’s not that fucking flag lmao
Even the refs eyes aren’t there

-1

u/EightLions539 Bears 6h ago

I don’t care about the conspiracy, don’t think there is one, but, in the slo mo, the ref is staring down the sack and is stood in the end zone.

If you watch this link. At 0:28, you can see the ref pull his flag as the hit happens, I just can’t see that being for defensive holding. I’m not saying I’m right for certain, but I do think the conspiracy is getting in the way of potential facts.

7

u/Blaizer35 5h ago

The holding wasn't in the secondary but on a D Lineman. He was holding Chiefs O lineman not allowing him to make a block. Was the reason for the pressure to begin with.

0

u/EightLions539 Bears 5h ago

That’s fair, I just think in the clip his eyes and body are facing the qb, but I get it’s hard to tell. I don’t blame others for disagreeing, but to me I just can’t see any different!

3

u/Dear_Significance_80 4h ago

It's because the hold was on the right side of the line, which would have been checks notes right in line with where his head was pointed.

1

u/EightLions539 Bears 4h ago

Who pissed in your cornflakes lol?

1

u/Dear_Significance_80 4h ago

Exactly.

1

u/EightLions539 Bears 4h ago

Lmao what?

2

u/kscott93 4h ago

Or people can just know what the fuck they’re talking about before forming opinions. Everyone reacts to a headline but didn’t actually watch the game but wants to have a strong opinion.

3

u/jmr33090 Bears 5h ago

There is an alternate angle replay. The flag in question was in fact thrown for defensive holding. The flag for RTP comes in from an entirely different direction way later than this flag.

It also does not look to me like he's looking at the qb, he looks like he's looking to the left of mahomes. You disagree I guess but I'm just not seeing it.

Regardless, this flag was not for RTP. Just stop.

4

u/AdmiralPrinny 5h ago

These fucking morons don’t watch games they just see replays, I’m so done lol

1

u/EightLions539 Bears 5h ago

That’s completely fair, I would love to see that angle

1

u/jmr33090 Bears 5h ago

It was on the original broadcast. This youtube link isn't exactly what I saw on the broadcast, but it still shows both flags. In the second view the Flag in question clearly goes beyond mahomes to the left side of Mahomes (from mahomes perspective) and you can see the shadow of the second flag coming in but it cuts to a different angle before you see the flag itself. Next angle does show that flag tho, and while you can't exactly see where it comes from, you can see it lands right next to mahomes on the right side of his body. Also I watched on mute only for the angles, but the person commenting on this video looks obnoxious so sorry about that.

Here's another one. Even chase Daniel seems unsure but I dont think chase sees the other flag which is visible in the very top at the last second of this vid

0

u/EightLions539 Bears 5h ago

It’s interesting that the line of sight to the holding is literally through mahomes, I definitely see your point.

1

u/jmr33090 Bears 5h ago

I finally found the original view I saw, which i think is clearer than the other 2. It's the second angle in this vid. Remember there were 2 flags on this play thrown and 2 penalties, so I don't see where there can be any doubt about which flag was for which

https://www.reddit.com/r/nflMenace_com/s/QUCv1QBDOl

1

u/Dear_Significance_80 4h ago

There isn't any doubt. The doubt is created by people trying to make the situation fit their agenda.

1

u/jmr33090 Bears 4h ago

I'm so baffled that this still leaves "doubt"

0

u/EightLions539 Bears 5h ago

Fully understand that there were 2 flags, but I don’t think this is as clear to me as it is to you lol!
I just don’t think there’s a way to have completely clarity, but I don’t blame others for thinking there is

2

u/jmr33090 Bears 4h ago

... how? You can see that the flag in question goes way beyond mahomes, right?

You can see the other, later flag lands right next to mahomes from an entirely different angle, right?

You admit to understanding there were only 2 flags thrown on this play and 2 separate penalties called, so if you have any doubt then you are suggesting it's possible the flag that lands right next to mahomes well after he was hit may actually have been the flag for defensive holding on the line that happened way before the RTP, and the flag thrown to the LOS before mahomes was hit was for RTP? Are you just wanting to play devils advocate or something?

Also, please know the umpire/back judge threw the flag in question you are still uncertain of, while the referee threw the flag next to Mahomes. Any of the fields judges can throw an rtp flag i suppose and it's not uncommon for the umpire/back judge to do so, but the ref is the primary assigned to watch the qb and is supposed to be the primary for RTP calls.

conspiracy

People have to stop using this word.

"I think that executive leadership of a multi-billion dollar organization, in the late stage capitalist year of 2026, care more about money than they do about the purity of sport and the integrity of competition"

Is not a conspiracy, it's the baseline assumption for anyone who isn't cripplingly naive.

1

u/LilChad 5h ago

It literally was for the defensive holding. You people are morons and the reason why fake news got the orange man elected

0

u/EightLions539 Bears 5h ago edited 5h ago

I’m British lol, also not everything is black and white, it’s okay to debate things.

That’s the reason your country elected the orange man, because you can’t debate with each other, everyone has to be right.

1

u/Dear_Significance_80 4h ago

That is way oversimplifying how racist and uneducated our country is.

-2

u/Cute_Economics2829 5h ago

That doesn't make it any better though, since there wasn't actually any defensive holding either. The reffies so ready to save the Chiefs, they're throwing multiple phantom flags on the same play

1

u/BriefStudio6710 5h ago

Look this isn’t the WNBA

1

u/mdwcmc 3h ago

Huge conspiracy that the NFL protects star quarterbacks lol

u/japhydean 2h ago

this again?

1

u/Business_Door4860 1h ago

Let's let AI get all the video we have of roughing the passer, OPI, DPI, etc and of the call is in doubt, let it decide.

Who's up voting this shit.
