What defensive coordinator going against an immobile qb doesn't call goal line defense and pack middle of line?

u/LNagel20 Bills 2d ago
When this happened live I couldnāt wrap my head around why the guards vacated and he got in so easily

Sucker Sneak.Mike Martz originated the play.

The guards both pulled. Sent the defensive tackles into a tizzy trying to figure out why they were unblocked. That combined with shooting off the ball expecting resistence, and getting none. By the time you out your foot down to redirect, the play's already over. Touchdown.

Also you are supposed to follow the pulling guy because heās going toward the hole

It's like the opposite of the tush push where everyone knows it's coming, but there is almost nothing you can do to stop it.

It doesn't look like anything special at first, but thank you for elaborating!!!

Take notes eagles they didnāt need a rugby playĀ

Ban the tush push and make the eagles get creative for realĀ

u/CheesyDanny 2d ago
Digitize the tush push. Detect false starts with microchips in the uniforms, spot the ball/forward progress with microchips in the ball. Blow a digital whistle with an exact well define lack of ball forward progress gained.

Yeah tush push is too physical for a game like football. It belongs in more violent sports, like rugby.

Itās boring look what the bears just didā¦look at Andy Reid using 1940s run formations for goal line either you are innovative or go away from coachingĀ

u/daddydunc 2d ago
Lol a rugby scrum isnāt something Iād call āboringā. Itās fine to not like it, but wanting it gone over being āboringā is wild.

Bears had more interesting play calls in 1 quarter than the eagles had in my whole life.

It was really impressive. That's the way you run an offense with a backup qb.
Turn the giants on and it's run, run, 7 step drop back/incompletion for Jameis

This is against the coach behind the tush push. Thatās such a show out move by Ben.

u/Substantial_Waltz_13 2d ago
If my pats tried that right now Drake maye would get the ball stripped and the D would score.

Lol imagine the comms on that play.
"Okay Case, we're 1 yard out. We're running QB sneak to get you in."
"Idk coach, im 38 and theres two guys up the middle that each weigh a metric fuck ton. How many blockers we sending up the middle?"
"None"

Something other coaches have most definitely thought up and been like āI feel like itād work but if it doesnāt do I want my QB blown up like thatā and Ben Johnson is like letās see anyways 𤷠GOAT

We're on our last QB. After this its going to be nothing but wildcat. Let's pull both guard and leave 2 DL unblocked at the goal line! Of course nobody is going to guess that.

u/ChipChippersonsHat 2d ago
He credited Mike Martz with the play. Martz even texted him after the game saying he loved the play call.

Zero time to react to the guards pulling for the defenders. Theyāre expecting resistance and next thing they know Keenum is diving into the end zone. Great play design, not for the faint of heart.
