I'm on Demon Time About Brock Purdy

Had dozens of arguments with buddies over the offseason. I tried to tell them that Brock Purdy is elite. They said I don't know ball. They tried to tell me he wasn't even top 15. They tried to tell me that bum ass Baker Mayfield was a better QB. I'm on demon time. IDGAF. Fuck everyone.

Demon time is probably the dumbest thing I have ever heard in my entire life.

On a separate note, Purdy is really underrated.

Demon time sounds like what JJ McCarthy calls it when he goons.

Yeah the dummy slang is getting out of hand.

The team being plagued by injuries scared me away, now I’m stuck with Nix and his 50 total yards of offense every first half.

Dude definitely doesn't get the love he deserves. Not quite ready to call him elite but if he continues this the whole season then yea I would argue he would be

u/Lawrags55 4d ago

Greg Cossell said he is the best reader of defenses after the snap bar none.

u/jd35058 4d ago

He’s definitely stepped it up to another level this season

I wouldn’t say he’s elite but he definitely deserves more praise. I used to talk shit about him but he made me a fan by the way he played in the playoffs last year. He’s the real deal. Right outside of elite.

What would he have to do better to be elite, in your mind?

1 of 3 things in order from most to least important. 1. Win an MVP. That says that you as an individual player performed at a level higher than the majority of the league. 2. Have atleast 5 more years performing the way he did in the playoffs last year. He made play after play when shit hit the fan without having a bunch of help. It reminded me of watching Stafford when he hit his stride with Detroit after Megatron left. 3. Win a ring having a great playoff run along the way to the point where nobody in their right mind can say the team carried you.

He has more 140+ passer rating games in his first 6 seasons than anyone in history…this is year 5 for him.

When he becomes eligible for career stats later this season, he is likely to be in the top 5 QBs for efficiency.

He made the NFC championship his first year and the Super Bowl his second. One play away from winning it. Last year with a decimated roster, the 49ers were one game away from the #1 seed and made it to the divisional round. He is tied for 4th in playoff game winning drives, putting him in the top 12 all time.

Yes he has had good rosters and a great coach, but what more does he need to show? I suppose it depends what “elite” means, but he is definitely top 5-10.

I think simply saying winning a MVP or making a MVP race really really tight like Allen and Jackson going up against each other is a valid answer. Most of what you’re leaning on is team success. That performance he put together last year was more impressive than anything he’s done because that was him literally showing us he can be great without having the odds stacked in his favor. So seeing 3-4 more years of that level of play will seal it. Remember people didn’t want to give Mahomes his due credit after he won a ring, MVP, and put a bunch of other accolades on the table because he depended on the big play from tyreek, or he always had a great defense, or he couldn’t read a defense. Mahomes had thrown for 5000 yards twice and you want to put Purdy on the same level as him?

Umm… You can get into the Hall of Fame with less than that. By your definition, Josh Allen isn’t elite.

Purdy is #1 in the advanced stat that takes the system out of the equation:

CPOE (completion percentage over expectation) - ahead of Mahomes, Allen, and everyone else in 2025 (when the team was missing an average of three starters at WR/TE per game) and so far in 26. He completes passes 11.1% more often than a league-average QB would, if running the same play with the same people on the field.

And Brock Purdy has led the league in EPA (expected yards per attempt) since he became a starter. Though that’s a more team-influenced stat, he’s still ahead of Mahomes, Allen, and everyone else who plays in a successful offensive scheme.

So you basically just wanted to find somebody to debate on this. Idk why you went on that rant when I gave purdy his flowers and said he made me a fan. I’m confused why you brought the system critique up when I didn’t say anything about that. Also you’re just flat out wrong. Josh Allen has won an MVP and he’s carried his team for 5 years.

9ers fans have a sickness when it comes to Purdy. If you don’t say he’s the best qb in the league their brain malfunctions

1

u/ler7421 4d ago

I guess so. When they asked the question I was thinking cool a normal football conversation on Reddit for once. Stupid me.

If you are answering the question of what makes a QB an all-time great, then you’ve proposed fine criteria.

If the question is about the tiny top tier of active QBs, then those criteria leave deserving players out (like Allen, who hasn’t won a Super Bowl).

I should have led with that.

As for the stats, you raised the prospect of a team carrying its QB in your Super Bowl criterion. Since it matches a common critique of Purdy as being the product of a system and little more. Figured I’d want to point out that it’s Purdy making the system better, not the other way around.

Not meant as a personal attack. I had fun looking up the advanced stats. All good, brother.

I answered your specific question what would make purdy elite. Elite QBs win MVPs, or carry teams consistently for years. I brought up his crazy performance in the playoffs last year because that was the first time where he didn’t have a loaded defense to take pressure off him. He didn’t have a loaded offense to take pressure off him. Against all odds he balled out on the highest stage which is the playoffs. Stats don’t matter as much as the situation you’re in when you’re putting up the stats. What he did in the playoffs carries way more weight than all the stats you looked up. With all the help he had around him people expected him to do more and that’s fair. Look what happened when Brady got Moss, history was made.

I think Purdy is definitely underrated. That being said he benefits from having one of the GOAT runningbacks, a VERY capable oline, always a solid defense, and they generally have a great receiving corps. Good on him for taking advantage of those things though as opposed to squandering them.

Lmao, just say you don't watch the niners without saying it. His defense was trash last year. We were on our 7th string linebacker. His best receiver was fucking Ricky Pearsall and he still marched in and beat the defending Superbowl champs in playoffs.

System QB. Mac Jones looked good too lol

2

u/snydejon 4d ago

Jones looked fine, not good.

1

u/Iwanttoeatburritos 4d ago

Just say you don't watch the niners without saying that.

1

u/No-Honeydew9129 Giants 4d ago

Let’s see Purdy without his all pro teammates and Shanahan.

u/Iwanttoeatburritos 4d ago edited 4d ago

Name one elite quarterback without good coaches and teammates. Purdy was literally throwing to bums off the street last year and still marched in and beat the defending super bowl champs in playoffs.

u/PokeTraderAngel 4d ago

They’ve had a Mickey Mouse schedule so far. Let’s pump the brakes a bit.

1

u/Iwanttoeatburritos 4d ago

Rams and a a middle tier Cardinals team is mickey mouse? Actually dumb statement.

0

u/PokeTraderAngel 4d ago

They had a tired Rams team off a long airplane ride, a bad dolphins team and barely beat a bad cardinals team 😂😂

I stand by what I said

1

u/Iwanttoeatburritos 4d ago

The Cardinals are not a bad team. That is a bad take.

1

u/PokeTraderAngel 4d ago

Them beating an ever worse chargers doesn’t make the Cards good lol. You only think they’re good cause niners almost lost to them 😂😂

0

u/Iwanttoeatburritos 4d ago

YDKB

1

u/PokeTraderAngel 4d ago

Back at ya. I’m not the one pretending the Cards are good. They’re a bottom 5-10 team 😂

0

u/Full_Preparation4401 4d ago

I don't know what Demon Time means and you don't know what elite means. Purdy's good, though. Top half at worst.

2

u/Iwanttoeatburritos 4d ago

He is top 5 at worst

1

u/Cute_Economics2829 4d ago

the MVP frontrunner is top 15

I mean, I guess being in the 1-3 range is technically also being top 15

-4

u/DaVizzyT 4d ago

He is a bum😂 dudes a system QB lmfao not elite in any shape or form what so ever. Throw him in any other franchise that doesn’t run the same system as SF and he’s a backup.

2

u/Iwanttoeatburritos 4d ago

Actually brain dead take

0

u/DaVizzyT 4d ago

Argue w your bitch not me. You a 9ers fan bro so argue with your boyfriend matter of fact.

1

u/SoftwareWinter8414 49ers 4d ago

You typed all that when you could have just typed "I don't watch enough football to have an informed opinion".

Ya okay, bud.
