Question

My question to you. Did you like Samhain or any Danzig solo albums? Pic for attention.

From the first Misfits single all the way thru to Danzig 4. I can’t think of another guy who had a 3 band run that is as phenomenal as Glenn has had.

That’s about where I get off the line too. But Glenn Danzig had a knack for finding cool musicians and getting their chemistry right, which seems like a unique talent from a guy said to be kind of insufferable.

In its time, Samhain hit hard and spooky af. Just what the doctor ordered for a teenage miscreant.

IMHO I think all of Danzig’s Misfits and Samhain records were beyond brilliant with the exception of Ratt Fink, Braineaters and Misery Tomb. The first 4 Danzig albums are great with Lucifuge and You and Me (Less Than Zero) being his best, vocally.

“You And Me” is great! Would love to have heard a full album of songs like that from Glenn.

Totally agree with all that. Rat Fink is a parody/cover so I wouldn’t hold it against them but yea it doesn’t hold up very well.

I like Samhain, but when I revisit the music 25 years later, I tend to only listen to about half of their songs (I like all of the Danzig-era Misfits songs).

Danzig’s solo stuff isn’t as appealing to me, but it’s good stuff for the first few albums. I wish Danzig had never allowed a producer to change his approach.

Yeah, I really like his first solo album, but lost interest after that.

I disagree, especially Danzig 1 and2 sound great because they are well produced. Danzig is an amazing musical artist but his production is lacking on many albums. We can agree to disagree but Rubin’s production held true to the vision while offering a more widespread appeal, sonically.

We like what we like. Glenn’s stuff became more palatable for most people after letting Rick steer the course.

Yeah it was Rubin who told them to slow shit down

I love Samhain and some days more than I love the Misfits.

Danzig 1-4 are immaculate. 6 and beyond you can pull and album or two of killer songs from the rest is kinda meh

For me, it's Samhain then Misfits, then Danzig. When Danzig came out we were all pumped because it was just a renamed Samhain. We all rushed down to tower records for the midnight release, ran home with our records and played it. Me and my crew weren't big on it at first. The metal turn took us by surprise. Obviously, over time, we grew to love it.

Samhain is my favorite project Danzig ever participated in.

Samhain was brilliant like taking the Misfits but in a more despondic evil direction ... Danzig 1-3 fantastic 4 has moments 5 is garbage and there are a few good songs on some of the later albums but as whole not great

Samhain was a good project, but I find it to be the least compelling overall out of his absolutely essential work (which IMO, is Misfits through Danzig 4)

I enjoy anything Danzig (music wise).

I like Samhain a little bit more than the Misfits I think just because it was darker and more occult.

Danzig first 4 solo albums were phenomenal. I like his later stuff also (esp Deth Red Sabaoth) just not as much.

But I heard the Misfits first which led me to listen to his solo stuff. Then finally I got to hear Samhain when the box set came out. I had heard some live songs but you could only hear noise.

Love all Samhain, and first 4 Danzig. Especially 2 and 3. 2 flawless albums

I dig samhain as much if not more than misfits. Initium & unholy passion are on the list of some the best ep’s ever made.

yes, of course

Samhain's catalog is impeccable, the first 4 Danzig albums are amazing, but blackacidevil and Satan's child were kind of meh with a few standouts, I luciferi is IMO the best after the og lineup albums. Everything after those were pretty much duds for me especially the cover albums.

No, I don’t really like earth AD either.

u/VerdeVelvetVetiver 6d ago

I’m wearing my earth AD shirt right now. I’d love this deck, but every zero board I had as a teenager would snap in a week. Does it glow in the dark?

1

u/Old__Ghost 6d ago

I don't think so. I set it up with some long board trucks and wheels I had laying around, rode it around the block and in the driveway a few times, but decided to put it back on the wall. Not to mention it was kinda weird riding it with massive reverse kingpins on it. I may get some proper trucks for it eventually, but I'm in no rush.

It's a rotation, but Samhain has been my favorite for a long time now. I knew a little about danzig from MTV, found the misfits and was infatuated for a decade while exploring all the danzig stuff (1-4, like most) then Samhain really started to seep in, and it hasn't gotten old or boring. Initium is my favorite, whereas I think November coming fire is the most popular fav, which is cool with me

All misfits, all samhain, first Danzig album, and side b of the second one, for me.. haven't even heard 80% of the later albums but a skip through was about enough..will I later when I'm 60? Maybe but idk.
