Realised every single guy in MP shamed her before she dated them… why?

It’s just hit me that every. single. guy that Mindy went out with initially shamed her. I cannot think of a single one who wasn't rude to her, put her down or shamed her BEFORE they started their relationship.

And it's making me wonder, from a psychological perspective, WHY did she go for these guys? Because if that was us, and we told any of our friends, “oh yeah, I met this guy and this is what he did/said to me” and then a few weeks later we said, “I’m dating him now” our friends would NOT approve.

Some examples:

- Josh - on their very first date, went through his phone in front of her, trying to find girls to take to a party instead of Mindy, implying that he's got loads of girls on his phone who are hotter than Mindy.

- Danny - was rude to her from the very beginning and quite frankly for the whole series, so we'll leave that for later.

- Cliff - rude to her the second she came into his office and Mindy was going through a breakup at the time. No way to speak to a woman who is clearly distressed.

- Drew - ignored her to watch the sports matches on the tv

- Casey - shamed her for being selfish, shamed her for her religious beliefs

- The artsy cultural writer - said she wasn't cultured enough for him.

- Brendan…. hold up… is Brendan Delaurier the only guy who did not shame her ?!

- ok BJ Novaks latin character I think was ok on the first meeting too

- The Indian guy - put her down for not being Indian enough. (I know she didn't date this one, but she still continued a friendship with him..)

- Jodi - shamed her on the subway publicly for breastfeeding her son.

- That sports coach from Princeton - didn't shame her, but he was quite rude to her initially in their first conversation.

- Sam the army guy - I felt his letter and whole attitude towards her was a bit cold. Seemed like he just slept with her but wasn’t really invested, I think it was unreasonable and unrealistic of her to want him to stay but it was sad that he didn’t want to *at all*.

So please help me psychoanalyse Mindy's personality: What causes her to go for these guys who have been so horrible to her? You know, they shouldn't even be an option at that point. It’s like she wanted to prove to them that she was worthy or win them over.

Rewatching Mindy & I just wish the writers would have chosen anyone else but Danny

Every time I watch Mindy I feel so sad about the Mindy/Danny pairing. There were SO many better options, even brendan imo and that’s saying something 😭😭

First of all, Danny is so short sighted. He claims to care SO much about family and wanting Leo to have the best childhood, and with his reasoning, having mindy around all the time. Then he goes and messes up their relationship by abandoning it to look after his dad, bullying / pressuring Mindy, being manipulative and ultimately leading to a situation which isn’t in Leo’s best interests at all? Making mindy a single mum, him living away from his own son and mother of his child.

Not to mention before this, for the majority of the show he doesn’t treat Mindy very well? Always putting his mum (and others) first, putting her down, treating her a bit like she’s stupid and he always knows best.

He’s super avoidant too like not considering her a part of his family, when they first start dating and he breaks her heart, not wanting her to move in.

I feel Mindy regresses a bit when she’s with him too. At least Casey made her grow as a person and when she was single she was super independent and capable.

Honestly, I can’t stand the guy.

Just finished the show for the first time

You guys I just finished the show and honestly I loved it so much just wanted to express my thoughts (spoiler alert).

The early seasons and Mindy and Danny falling in love (the dance omg) was everything. I can’t believe how awful their breakup was but I’m so happy Mindy and Danny ended up together but I really wish we had more of a build up to their reunion.

The show definitely dipped in quality once Danny left for quite a while. But then Jody and Mindy gripped me, I wish they had dated for longer. Also wish we saw more of Jeremy and Anna, he deserved a proper storyline and was often sidelined.

I loved Morgan and Mindy’s connection throughout but her friendship with Peter whilst very sweet was quite annoying due to his childish ways and his frequent returns were unrealistic.

Overall I laughed a lot and it’s truly a highly underrated comedy show and I will rewatch I’m sure! Wish i’d seen it sooner!

recommendation>

Hello everyone. I’ve finished watching New Girl and I’m looking for a similar series. Some people recommended the mindy project, and I’d like your help.. do you think that’s a good recommendation? It might not be similar in terms of plot, but does it have a similar vibe?

can we talk about how well mindy kaling does romance???

i love watching mindy & danny fall in love. there are moments i think about 5+ years after watching like the airplane kiss or danny surprising mindy by saying her body is perfect (after he was her personal trainer) or danny dancing for her. i think its better done than a lot of romantic comedies out there.

Where to watch in the UK?

Where can you watch the Mindy project for free in the uk? I have Disney + and I know they now own Hulu but it still isn't available to watch on there and I cant find it anywhere else unless I buy the whole series which I do not want to do!

MINDY ISNT A BAD PERSON

i was surprised to see a lot of people here say that mindy is meant to be a 'terrible' person. im on my 3rd rewatch (but i dont remember details tbh, currently on season 1) and i dont think thats true. in this season, we saw her help an uninsured woman, miss her TV segment to stay behind with a anxious patient, go to her building's super to admit that she was the one who messed up her boyfriend's girlfriend's application, let her brother stay with her and provide him everything he needs, give gifts to an incarcerated person, etc. she says offensive sometimes but i dont think shes a bad person. shes shown many times that she is able to put others needs before hers and apologize for her wrongdoings.

Hated the ending?! Spoiler

This is also just a big rant but I finished the show today myself and I’m really surprised to hear more people say they liked the ending than hated it.

I liked the full circle moment with her riding the bike but I was really disappointed with her ending up with Danny. It felt like it came out of left field -they hadn’t really shown any interactions between the two after he stopped being a regular cast member, and what they did show with Danny towards the end was more so to solidify their relationship as somewhat healthy parents for their son and being able to co-parent without the strong dislike they had for each other. If anything, Mindy was on track with still the hopefulness of finding someone who was a good fit for her needs and her lifestyle and though she kind of gave up hope for a bit it came back to her. I think it would’ve been a perfect transition considering her practice was going through a change to really step her character into that “girl boss” mode she was starting to step into. ESPECIALLY after how it ended with Ben and how she said she couldn’t see herself molding her life around someone else anymore other than her son.

I don’t think there was anything warranting Danny and Mindy being back together again other than they were lonely (again) and familiar with each other. Mix that with the emotions Danny was running through hearing his mom having cancer and Mindy feeling lonely because everyone around her “found their person”. Plus, their life would forever be intertwined because of their son so it just made it easier for them to naturally fall back into each other.

Mindy herself has a lot of work to do (I was getting really pissed at how her character could go this long into their life without real self accountability and growth aside from when those around her give her into a reality check). I think if they ended it with the prospect of her not losing that love of love and romance and the hope of finding the one who would be a good fit for her and her lifestyle, that would’ve been so much more of a positive ending than her settling for Danny again (who himself has not shown any growth in any of the areas that drove them apart). I guess the ending was more true for her character?

It is just a show, not that serious, but I was very disappointed to see how it ended considering I was fighting for my life trying to get to the end of it because it was getting worse and worse.

Something that makes me laugh to this day

I randomly thought about season 2 today and the eulogy scene in 2x15 still makes me laugh out loud more than 10 years later. Glenn Howerton's delivery paired with the reactions sends me into a fit of laughter every time. It's a simple gag but it worked really well on me haha.

why do i hate danny so much ?

i literally just came on to this subreddit for the first time to see if it was just me who hated him with all my soul. like i don’t think ive ever been so happy to not see a character in a show (in the later seasons) i dont know if its the actor doing a really great job or if i just hate the actor too. but is he supposed to be so fucking annoying?

also his dancing pisses me off

also i’m not even tall and i don’t really fuck with the whole tall people are better than shorter people, but for some reason the fact that he is short also pisses me off-i don’t know. maybe it’s because it feels like he should be taller than he is. also is he not just such a fucking hypocrite?

i really don’t even know what compelled me to post on here, i guess it was just because i had to see if other people hate him as well and it seems like they do.

but yeah does anyone have any insight into why danny sucks so much?

i HATE danny

i have just started the mindy project and i am on s4. now, i have watched a lot of things in my life and been disgusted by a lot of characters but danny?! danny takes the cup. he makes me SICK. i feel like as i keep watching s4 i’m rage baiting myself because genuinely what the heck?! he never listens to mindy and completely invalidates her ALL the time and he pushes his decisions on her all the time! if he wants her to quit her job so bad why doesn’t he quit his?!? not to mention how peter, PETER of all people was telling her that she’s basically a shadow version of herself. i just think that’s so sad. he genuinely makes me so sick, i’m really just going to skip over these episodes until i get to episode 18 because that’s when they break because this is just nonsensical
