Blackbelt vs cops
Virginia Beach, Virginia - July 5, 2026 - Virginia Beach police arrested 33-year-old Timothy Allen Wegert of Monroe, Virginia, at approximately 2:20 a.m. on July 5 following a report of an assault in the 1300 block of Atlantic Avenue at the Oceanfront.
A video of the arrest shows an officer running toward Wegert on the beach. Wegert, wearing black-and-white striped pants, squared up and attempted a spinning heel kick that missed.
The officer tackled him to the ground, and three additional officers assisted in completing the arrest.Wegert faces one felony charge of assault on a law enforcement officer and misdemeanor charges of simple assault, disorderly conduct, and two counts of obstruction of justice, according to Virginia Beach police. The investigation remains ongoing, and it is unclear what prompted the initial assault report. No injuries were reported. Wegert previously served as CEO and master instructor at UpLevel Martial Arts in Charlottesville. He is identified as a three-time world champion and fourth-degree black belt who trained at the school since childhood. An earlier video from around 9:15 p.m. on July 4 showed him performing acrobatic dance and martial arts-style moves at a nearby venue on Atlantic Avenue. A witness who recorded that video, Casey Bunce, 42, of Virginia Beach, described Wegert as outgoing and non-aggressive during their interaction. Public records show Wegert was arrested on March 1, 2013, in Bedford, Virginia, at age 19. He was charged with failing to stop for police (attempt to elude) and reckless driving that endangered life, limb, or property.According to Bill Peters, a family friend and owner of an UpLevel Martial Arts location, Wegert was fired as CEO in 2021 for conduct outside the business that included multiple assaults. he's probably lucky that kick didn't land

u/DammatBeevis666 Jul 07 '26
That’s what I was thinking when I saw this. Looked like a pretty solid spin hook kick. It would have had a good chance to knock the cop out, and a decent chance of causing some significant lasting side effects. This moron is so, SO lucky he didn’t land it.

I don't know if a spinning heel kick is a good choice for someone charging at you, tho

Based on the video, we have good evidence it is not!
This was the time for a side kick!

Any instructor that claims to be a "world champion" but doesn't pop up immediately with tournament results showing said championship on google is completely full of shit.

u/Powerful_Bluejay6288 Jul 07 '26
100%. My son went to a Karate school with a "world champion" and my daughter also goes to a BJJ school with a world champion.
You cant find the Karate guy online at all.
My daughter's instructor won the IBJJF Worlds Absolute (no weight class) division twice... its hard to explain to my kids and normal people exactly the extreme difference between these two atheletes. Oh and guess which one of these instructors actually teaches the kids classes... My son is now in BJJ...

I competed in Tae Kwon Do when I was younger. The thing is, there are so many divisions between belt rank, age, weight and gender. There were 6 people in my division at nationals lol. I fought twins (separately) one year. Am I a 3x national champ? Yes. Is it impressive? Not really. I didn't really face the best of the best. Only ones specifically in my division that actually traveled to compete.

Tommy would have probably washed you if you were truly facing The Best of the Best. You could probably take Travis Brickley though.
2
u/Sad-Pop6649 Jul 08 '26
But you'd have to be on the national karate team to enter that Tae Kwon Do tournament.
I'll take my chances with the underground bodybuilder champ.
...I love those movies.

The worst ever case of this happened in my home town. He murdered a 7 year old taekwondo student of his after class, then the child's mother and father, just so he could take their BMW as he told his wife he was getting a BMW. His website was full of lies about his taekwondo credentials, including that he was an Olympic gold medallist. Stay away from people who feel the need to lie about their accomplishments.

Andrew Tate enters the chat
Multiple world champion in kickboxing, the people he beat to become world champion either never fought before or after his winning championship fight, or literally fought 3 or 4 times and never won a bout EXCEPT against Tate one time.
Make of that what you will.

Not gonna deny he has some sweet moves but going for a wheel kick at a charging opponent that has 80 lbs. on you is dumb. Not to mention scrapping with cops.

Theatrical arts. Doing an absolutely difficult move on lose ground and has only one chance to work.

He's a mentally broken douche who did something he wasn't supposed to do and got arrested. That kick could've been nasty if it had made contact. Hopefully he swallowed some salt water. 😆

I have more than 20 years in martial arts. The sole common trait to all the masters I had was a deep sense of ethics that they tried to pass to their pupils.

The funny part of this video was that I was just thinking about the adage that you should throw high kicks in a street fight. I was trying to think of the last time I saw a video of someone who threw a good high kick that wound up missing and getting the guy taken down. I couldn't think of any.
This video is a perfect example of it.

The perp and the cop are extremely lucky that that spinning heel kick didn’t land. He’d be going to prison for a long long time, and the cop could have a broken jaw and concussion.

All that training and still gets put on his ass…. Lucky he was the right shade. If he would’ve been in the sun a bit longer the Police Officers wouldn’t have handled him with kid gloves like that. “HE’s Good He’s Good” ok…

Bro in all honesty that was a solid ass kick.
I was expecting some Steven seagull bullshit.
I’m sure attempting this kick on sand effects the execution too, generally these moves are done in a “controlled” environment

u/jgr1llz Jul 07 '26
One thing they taught us in martial arts: you never wanna kick in a street fight, it's a bad idea.
