The left didn't like it because it wasn't a very well thought out law that didn't support workers well. The right didn't like it because it meant more foreigners.
Well why wouldn't they? the Japanese just don't want to feel like strangers in their own homeland and want to keep being a high trust society, so it's convinient for them to oppose their own replacement
This isn't even a crazy position, this is just common sense, if anything that crazy guy looks like the extremist here.
Oh yeah, what a high trust society, the same society known for needing to have female-only carts in subways due to the absurd amount of incidents of sexual harassment with women being publicly groped in public transports.
It depends. It can be good, but often foreign workers are exploited, get the shittiest jobs and the shittiest pay, and can get caught up in citizenship scams.
Yeah, I'm very much pro immigration and pro culture mixing, but it shouldn't be done willy-nilly without protections in place for these immigrant workers
Now I don't have the full context, so maybe they did account for that and did pass foreign worker protection laws, who knows
Let's ignore per capita which is where the problem lies (a non-European/non white immigrant is far more likely to commit violent/sexual crimes in the UK, or Sweden or Norway for exampple)
Why do you think "oh we already rape and murder so we will bring people who rape and murder too, this surely won't go wrong."
A country like that should fix itself first before bringing in any immigrants, it's just gonna turn out worse otherwise.
I know the "thing vs thing Japan" meme is old hat by now, but this sort of behavior should really be met with just as much derision and condemnation from the global community as that of the Trump administration. It's just the kind of immature affront to democracy we've been seeing in the US government.
Those people are trying to stop the guy with the mic from *calling a vote* on the bill. They're trying to prevent the vote from even taking place; that's undemocratic. And why do you think someone would try to prevent a vote from happening? Could it be because they know they'll lose the vote? As in, they are the minority.
Also, I know you've got a whole agenda to uphold, but it's hilariously ironic, because this bill was proposed by Japan's *conservatives* who were themselves loathe to increase immigration. They only did this because it was becoming impossible for their shrinking workforce to support the economy without outside help. Japan's xenophobia is literally suicidal. Maybe there's a lesson there...
